JCing OOS/Upsmashing
OOS = Out of shield
JC = Jump cancel
Ok first things first this mechanic im gonna explain is very very useful. it allows you to score kills on punishes that you might be missing right now and makes pika a lot more deadly cause hitting his shield is pretty much death for a lot of characters.
Whenever you shield in Smash 4 and drop you shield there is a bit of lag. I have no way to best the frame data but IIRC in brawl there was like 6 frames on turning your shield off. This is negatated by Power shielding making PS a lot easier to punish thing that said however if someone hits your shield you can still get a lot of easy upsmashes problem is you have to deal with that 6 frame window and in most cases your not getting a punish out of that. so what do you do?
well the obvious option that most newer players go with is Shield grabbing where you press you A button (or whatever you have it set to) shield grabbing is good but its overused by newer players higher level players will bait you can punish you whiffed shield grabs by spacing approaches so this is a bit of a problem.
Well first things first jumping out of shield you cancel all shield dropping lag. which means in a lot of cases we get Easy Nair or Upair out of shield as our easy OOS option so this is the easy thing to do.
however its not the best choice because Upsmashing OOS is really really powerful. problem is droping your shield means lag which means missed punish. Well using that mechenic I just listed above where you can jump out of shield you can cancel your shield with a jump and input your upsmash canceling all lag. Therefore upsmashing with out suffering the drop lag. Note you can also input a dash in these button presses allowing you a bit of extra mobility for spacing that sweetspot.
SH Dair
Try inputting a short hop Pressing Down A you can SH Dair and autocancel your Dair. This is a very powerful tool and Can be auto canceled allowing you to do a crazy number of mix ups. This is a wicked option cause it has a hit box all over pikachu it does good damage and its fast.
Also with SH Dair if you hit the input on the Dair late you will slam into the ground causing an electrical discharge to hit the ground giving the move two hitboxes. Likewise you can fast fall the move for the same effect with a tad more control which is a great mix up or input on the hit confirm of the first hit however the landing hit box is laggy.
a great mix up with this move is SH dair away and Fsmash for example. you can buffer moves out of it so try different mix Ups like SH dair > Grab for example.
