Before you flame away after reading the first two sentences due to a short attention span, these are not my words, they are Jay Leno's, so don't attack me.
By the way, this is a topic that is America related, not Europe or somewhere else, so don't get all mad cause you people not in America may not be able to relate to this.

Subject: Jay Leno on President Bush (Surprising)

Jay Leno wrote this; it's the Jay Leno we don't often see....

As most of you know I am not a President Bush fan, nor have I ever been, but this is not about Bush, it is about us, as Americans, and it seems to hit the mark. The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right? The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the President. In essence 2/3 of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change. So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, 'What are we so unhappy about?''

A.. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week?

B.. Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?

C.. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?

D.. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?

E.. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to
present identification papers as we move through each state?

F.. Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?

G.. I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough either.

H. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a
helicopter to take you to the hospital.

I.. Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home.

J.. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in
moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames, thus saving you, your family, and your belongings.

K.. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with
a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss.

L.. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias ****** and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods
where 90% of teenagers own cell phones and computers.

M.. How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world?

Maybe that is what has 67% of you folks unhappy.

Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S., yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.

I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks? The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me?

Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad?

Think about it......are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the 'Media' told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day.

Make no mistake about it.

The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go. They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an 'other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans?

Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by 'justifying' them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way......Insane!

Turn off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as country. There is exponentially more good than bad. We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative. With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?

Jay Leno

ok....so, if you made this far, remember, I did not write this, this is Jay Leno's words.

Well... At the very least I hadn't expected something like this out of Leno. I'm not going to say yay or nay to his points as it's not my country and, frankly, there are many people on these boards who could discuss it better than I. The last line upset me enough to make note of it, but again, it's not my country.

Yeah the **** right... You have to defend yourself. Cops show up after you've been harmed or killed most of the time, unless you live around the corner from a Police Station.

On Leno's part, that was uncalled for. Sure we in America are spoiled, uncoth brats (The one of many reasons for my sig) but we are just unhappy with some of the dying of some of the values we hold dear (family, people worshipping celebrities, high gas prices, slowing economy etc.)

I doubt a police officer would make it to the scene of a robbery, but we have the right to protect ourselves with weaponry, atleast in Florida.

But when there is a hostage, or what was it, those guys in bullet proof armor from head to toe robbing a bank, the police were there with pistols and no vests being shot by AK-47 and M-16 weilidng fiends until SWAT arrived and kind of balanced the things out, although one of the thieves committed suicide(possibly by accident).

That actually made sense. It reminded me of a poll that USA Today conducted for like, 20 years. The question: Do you think the country's overall opinion of government is good or bad? For about 80% of the last 20 years, people have been unhappy with government. What the heck is wrong?! I read a story from five years ago, people going crazy about $2 gas. Wow, it'll take almost 50 cents to go to work and back. It says something of the American stereotype: we are spoiled.

Anyone who thinks the citizens are in the wrong, are ignorant fools. Our government is full of corrupt rich *******s who only want to get ahead, gas is still being used WHEN WE HAVE ALTERNATE ENERGY, there's a war going on that the public doesn't want to fight, family values are out the window, and we worship celebrities as if they were demigods.

And you fools say there's nothing wrong, and that I'm stupid to be Anti-American:laugh:

So a crap president gets shoed-into an already awesome country, and we're supposed to be grateful for the president? As if he made the country what it is? He is TAKING this amazing country away from us.

And he gave tax cuts to the wealthy, not the people who needed them. Get us out of an economic crisis? Who started that crisis, exactly? When Bill Clinton's term ended, the US had the largest budget surplus in history. Now we face the largest budget deficit.

It's not that interesting because A. Leno is very Republican leaning individual in most of his off-show rants, and B. Leno doesn't write half of the stuff he says on TV. More than likely, the Bush jokes were never his ideas. For all we know, he could be just another Bush loyalist who pretends they aren't.

The reason people are unhappy is very simple. Every year we lose more of what made our country. We get attacked by Muslim Extremist who had one intention in mind - to hurt us as long as possible. From that attack, we have given up numerous civil liberties such as wire tapping without a warrant, suspension of habeas corpus, and the ability government to look at anyone who is unique as a questionable person. These are not American values. Our forefathers would have constantly **** bricks if they saw how dependent we are on foreign countries, how involved we are in every aspect of the world, and how insidious our government has become. That's why I am unhappy with the direction of our country. We are not getting better; in fact, we are getting worse. Our economy is flatlining, but we pump trillions into a war with no foreseeable end because there is no visual or solid enemy. Our economy continues to sink as private investors are the ones setting the level of inflation.

That is why I am unhappy. I want my freedom back.

Abraham Lincoln suspended the writ of habeas corpus and numerous other civil liberties.

You are not being forced to live in the US.

And if you know anything about me, you'd know I despise Abe Lincoln for a lot of reasons.

No, but I have every right to and I choose to. That is easily the most bull****, passive-aggressive claim ever "if you don't like it, get out." Thomas Jefferson even added the second amendment with the intent that if our government gets out of control, we should violently overthrow it. But if you want sit by and allow a great country to fall apart, be my guest. All empires fail.

First of all, it's not as easy as just saying "**** it" one day and moving out. I'm not sure if you've ever moved from one country to another or not, but it's very difficult.

Second, one of the hallmarks of the system of democracy is the ability to change what you don't like by voting (though whether your vote makes a difference or not is a different issue). The system of freedom is also very important; even people who don't like everything about the country are free to believe, promote, suggest and vote for what they would like. Remember, the United States was founded on dissent.

The US is an amazing place to live; no one is doubting that, especially me. I've traveled to quite a few countries, and I wouldn't choose anywhere else to live.

But to say "the US is great, stop complaining" is to say that there is no need for improvement, that the status quo should never be challenged and that everything is perfect as it is. It's not, and we as citizens would be doing it an injustice if we stopped fighting to make it an even better place to live.

Don't give me that. Ever see Braveheart? What if the British told the ***** Scottish women "You are not being forced to live in Scotland."

It's their ****ing home, man. Having your home RUINED by some DUMB*** is not anywhere close to what I'd call acceptable.
Cough, this is the 21th century, not bravehearts day, and my grandparents left the US to live in the Dominican Republic, I never heard them complain about the hassle, they did return recently though for better medical help.

Because we are all old people with money saved up for all our lives.

Personally, I'd rather fix things with voting, than spend a **** load of money to uproot my life, thanks.
