Watched some of Forward's vids and liked his jab cancel. Do you just jab and press down to cancel it, then jab again? Thanks.

i'm pretty sure jab cancel means jab once to cancel an opponents move because a well timed jab has rediculous priority. for example, say a fox is forward b-ing to the stage above the edge. if you time the jab right, you'll hit him right out of it which (at high percentages) can lead to an fsmash or something.

that's the jab cancel, you don't push down or anything. perhaps you're talking about something else? lol.

:) if you show me the video i can help you a bit more

ah, i don't think i've seen the jabs used that way. but, as far as i know there isn't a name for that. he is just timing his jabs so that he does not go into a rapid kick. so it would be done A (pause) A (pause) A (pause) and so on. if you practice you can get the timing down without going into his rapid kick.

I don't know if this is really a cancel but I do what most Falco's do. The jab (jab) shine or jab (jab) D-smash. It works pretty good against some characters. I guess Fox can be one if they don't DI far away enough.

i think you cancel by pressing down after the firtst 2 jabs so you can immediatly start others without getting grabbed, not sure
used on link cause his grab is slow so jab will go first

maybe link just has a slower grab. i highly doubt you cant get grabbed out of that against someone like marth. either way forward can clear this up.

He's grab is slow but you defenetly will eat an Up B out of his shield if you jab it

There is such a thing as jab cancelling.....FYI. Yes, it is done by jabbing then pressing down to essentially crouch cancel the animation. Works the same was as dash cancelling. There's still a necessary pause between jabs but significantly less so and without the fear of going into a barrage.

I practiced doing this the other day and found it happens to be realy easy to learn, I don't know how to put it into actually play but sure it can be an effective tool if used correctly

forward just likes pressuring shields. most people do it with dair shines, forward does it with lots of other random stuff. shine sh sex kicks, jabs, etc. don't feel the need to copy him... he works it into his game because he finds it a necessary mixup. forward's one of those players that intermediate players shouldn't be copying unless they had a very deep understanding of why it's done.

i, for one, do not. i prefer dair shines, lol. jabs work as a nice setup, but i don't have the reflexes to follow it up.

Ironically, i remember a thread about this technique in the link forums. It explained everything in detail, but i'm afraid i don't know if it still exists or not.

jabs would be a risk, but it is just easy to pull off shorthand and you could always go into a pillar from it. if he did get punished, obviously he would not do it again. plus if link up b'd and falco sheilded, there is one second to like smash or combo

Found it. http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=83962

Supposedly forward wrote this:

Jab Cancels. Now this trick, I must admit I am quite proud of. I've done it for about 2 years at least now, and I still have not seen anyone doing this. After the first jab of an A A A series, you can tap down, release to neutral, and jab again to do the first jab of the A A A series. Doing this you can do the first jab repeatedly, faster than waiting for it to end, and it's almost as fast as doing the first two jabs of the series. You can also tap down and release after the second jab of the series, although this isn't as likely to fool people since there is a delay for the rapid A's after the second hit anyways. Needless to say, this works much better for some characters than others. Sheik, Falco, Fox, Mario, Doc, Luigi, Link, and Falcon can all make good use of this tactic. Feel free though to test it out with others, see what you can do with it.
