...and I'm going to step into Smashboards. I'm Hisry, and I made this account a while ago but never used it. None of you know me, just like I don't know any of you. I've been playing Smash for about three years now, and almost immediately I knew this game had so much more to offer me, so many little secrets and tricks and insane physics exploits that hadn't been found. The problem? I was playing Brawl.
I did a few local Brawl tournaments (I live in Kansas), each one under a different handle because I didn't want to attract any attention. Eventually I realized that I was foresaking school and life for Smash, and so I quit going to tournaments. I went and studied my hardest and then I went to middle school. Yes, you heard that right. I started playing in sixth grade... ish. I had a friend of mine who had seemingly already mastered Brawl, and he taunted me day and night about who was better. Then he moved to Oklahoma, and I was alone in my Smashing.
I picked up Melee one day, I had heard about how much more in-depth its game was and how skilled the players were who were in the middle ranks, let alone the top. By the end of the night, or the early morning rather, I had learned to wavedash. (Two years later and I still haven't quite got the hang of it) Being alone in my area in terms of Smashing, and having no way to go to tournaments due to my strict parents, I fought CPUs for the next two years. Come to think of it, I've never fought anyone even close to my level on Melee. My friends and family are all Call of Duty players or Solitaire (I'm looking at you, Mom). I am alone out here.
Then EVO 2013 came along and Nintendo halted the Melee stream. I dropped everything, leaving a therapy meeting (not for me) to go home and give Nintendo a good scalding. After jogging the four miles from the therapist's to my house, I joined in the lashing of Big N. Little did I know that by the time I had sent my thoughts, they had already repealed it. I stayed up late that night watching all the streams on my phone, burning through the entire battery twice and eventually collapsing from exhaustion after being up for so long. I got three hours of sleep and finished it the next morning before school.
I can't say that Smash is my life, just as much as I can say that pepperoni and sour cream sandwiches are fine eating. But I can say that I'm ready to hit this community headfirst, just to see what comes out.
