From what I could gather, most item discussions threads are apparently dead, so I'll simply make a thread for an item that could prove to be interesting...

Double Cherry

If a fighter grabs a Double Cherry, a duplicate of the fighter will be made. The duplicate will behave exactly like the original fighter, but can only take a certain amount of damage. If the clone is damaged too much, it'll disappear. On an additional note, if the clone gets KO'd, it will not affect the score of the original fighter.

Unlike in Super Mario 3D World, however, only one clone will be created, and as such, the Double Cherry will be rendered useless if the clone is still present. If the Ice Climbers grab the Double Cherry, a clone will only be made for the playable Ice Climber.

On one final note, the Double Cherry's effects are canceled out when the fighter's Final Smash is executed. This basically means that the fighter can't use his/her Final Smash, and be under the effects of the Double Cherry at the same time.

Any thoughts about this item can be brought up here.

If the copy breaks a smash ball then its owner should get the final smash and the copy would just keep attacking on its own like any assist trophy or pokemon.

This sounds like a great idea! But having a clone of a character would also mean techniques such as chain grabbing would be possible.
So, my suggestion would be to instead of the clone having "HP", it should disappear after a period of time has passed.

Sounds like a great idea! Maybe the characters could say something upon grabbing it , like how Mario says "It's a me!" in 3D World.

I like the idea! HOWEVER!, once you put that it would affect the user's score if the clone is KO'd, would the player also lose a life if the clone were to be KO'd in a stock battle?

Apparently, you misread my post...

On an additional note, if the clone gets KO'd, it will not affect the score of the original fighter.

maybe if we're worried about doubling already double characters, just the character that picks it up would double- having 2 popos and a nana or 2 nanas and a popo, and 2 rosalinas and a luma or 2 lumas and a rosalina. your thoughts?

That might be a little over powered. Though an interesting idea nonetheless. Kind of like a free stock and all. But if Mega Man got one it'd be like using the Copy Vision from Mega Man and Bass.

I can see issues with the Ice Climbers or Rosalina and Luma. If they add both characters when grabbing the Cherry.

I could see that, possibly, for characters with more than 1 AI, that it would be a bit different:

Ice Climbers: It makes one more Ice Climber, being whichever is in the lead, no matter which picks it up.
Rosalina & Luma: A bit tougher. It could make one more Rosalina, setting up more combos. But it cannot summon another Luma, only the original can.
Olimar: It creates another Olimar, but they share Pikmin between them, making it more strategic when using the Double Cherry.

There's only one problem I see:

1. For Pokemon Trainer/Samus/Zelda, will they change into the other when the original does, or will we be able to effectively create a Zelda/Sheik, Charizard/Squirtle or Samus/ZSS tag team?

I don't think 3DS can handle 12 possible Ice Climbers at the same time.
With the game taking care of Dragoon interfering with Smash Ball as of Brawl, I think it's not a huge jump to expect such an item not appearing in multiple quantities at all, if it was implemented.

I agree with it going away after a certain period of time but I also wouldn't worry about everyone becoming a "wobbling" pro in SB4 either.

I disagree, not that I hate the idea, but.
The 3DS won't be able to handle it. They already had trouble putting Rosalina and Luma into the 3DS version.

Do we really know if Rosalina was hard to implement?

Yes it was a team character. Rosalina and Luma. Here is a quote from Sakurai:

Sakurai said:
On the topic of the roster, Sakurai noted that the 3DS version of the game, with its hardware’s technical limitations, would likely keep the volume of the roster in check, though no characters had been cut so far, and any determination to that effect is a ways away. Which characters ultimately are included will be the result of careful consideration, ranging from which fighters have unique characteristics, equally representing franchises and how signature traits carry over well from previous games like Brawl. Sakurai did tell me that “multiple character” combatants like the Ice Climbers were proving a technical challenge on the 3DS.

I like it! It sounds super interesting. You could have it jab someone and then throw the person away with a Smash! You ccould potentially double the range of Smash attacks if the player and clone were side by side.

It could definitely be super broken! And I would love it for that.

The more chaos in party matches the better in my opinion. Haha.

Sounds like it would make heavies really over-powerered (not that I'm complaining.)

A suggestion. There should be something that would help you tell the original character and the clone apart.

This could really lag the 3DS version of the game. So I strongly disagree wit this. Not that I hate the idea (I actually quite love it) but say Rosalina + Luma were to grab it that would be 4 characters on screen!

Did Sakurai ever mention both versions will receive the same items? If I recall correctly, he only mentioned this about the characters, nothing else. So the Double Cherry could easily be implemented on the Wii U only, while the 3DS gets some version exclusive items of its own.
