What do you guys think about the little ones looking up to Melee's top players as role models?

(I have a little cousin who absolutely adores HungryBox and Mew2King; wears shirts with Jigglypuff and Marth, watches tournament sets featuring them, and can have an entire conversation about the two)

It depends on the smasher. Obviously smashers can make ether good or bod role models. I think Hungry box is a amazing role model and m2k is not bad.

Yeah, I can totally agree with you. My cousin also liked Mango at some point in time, but started leaning towards the others. Thanks for the response, by the way!

It depends on the player, honestly... All of them have their different strengths and flaws, but most of them are OK people to look up to. I would say that PP and HBox are probably the best role models out of the gods (seeing as they have plans for life after Smash, and they're both nice people), and Mango is the worst (he constantly gets drunk, had a kid with his long-time girlfriend, would be in a gang if it weren't for Smash, and pretty much cheated his way through school). None of them are completely bad, though; for example, Mango could be a good influence because of his fearlessness/self-confidence, Leffen's mindset lets him bounce back quickly from a problem, etc. It's actually kinda interesting, because all of the gods exhibit very different character traits and backgrounds, creating a very balanced and unique top 6 players.

I think Hbox is my favorite smasher out there, personality-wise. PP is another smasher I really enjoy to hear in interviews, he's got a nice personality and I would love to meet either of two someday. My cousin has also been running around saying that they want to be 'just like HungryBox' (now imagine that in the voice of a toddler) and is paying attention in school to be an engineer (or 'builder' as they say it). As told by their mother, I seem to be the favorite cousin. I hope they pay attention to school and their studies. They've got a long way to go...

All really good role models. Actually all the top level smashers are great role models aside from maybe Leffen, I'm sure he's actually a nice guy but he puts on the persona and hams it up for the scene.

Smashers are just people. Athletes are just people. Actors are just people. It's the content of a person's character that makes them a good role model, not what they do for a living. Being obsessed with M2k or Hbox is no stranger than a kid that's obsessed with Lebron James or Tom Brady.
