I have the hardest time with short hopping. I can press the jump button with the tip of a feather and ill finally get a short hop with Fox. Is there some technique im missing with the short hop, or is there a possibility of there being something wrong with my controller?

it's just very difficult
lots of practice, try sliding your thumb off the button as you're pressing it

Probably not a controller issue. Fox has a very tough short hop. Spend some time every day working on doing it consistently-- your fingers will get used to it.

It is very hard in the beginning, but it will become easy as abc in time. If you practice at least a couple of hours a week, you'll get it down in a couple of months np

Shorthopping basically just becomes muscle memory after a while once you get used to it. Fox's shorthop is the toughest to do in the game (you can only hold the jump button for 2 frames I believe) so just keep practicing until it becomes second nature.
