Is this game the polar opposite from Brawl in terms of balance?

Let me explain:

In Brawl, a casual player (not derogatory by any means, just someone who doesn't play competitively) that plays a bunch against other casual players and was fairly decent could pick any character and play against someone like MK or Snake and win without major hiccups. In short, every character was able to fight every other character on a casual level, but with high level play, someone like Link pales in comparison to MK or Snake or someone like that, hence Brawl being unbalanced.

In this game, while I don't see any huge imbalances (except for maybe Rosalina, but this is neither the time nor place for that) I DO see that when you first play the game, in the eyes of a newcomer, it may seem like ZSS or Diddy or Sonic or Sheik or any of the "top tier" characters are clearly overpowered, but in high-level play, sure, it may be common for a Diddy Kong or a Sheik to win the whole thing, but I wouldn't be shocked to see a Ganondorf win a tourney.

Keep in mind, I didn't play Brawl competitively, I've just heard things here and there, and seeing all of the threads about characters and balance made me think about this.

If it appears that way, it is because the game is new, the first Wii U tournaments are starting and not everyone knows all the match-ups too well.

How long does it take post-release for a tier list to be put out? Obviously it's never right on the first go and always being tweaked but I've only seen a couple for Sm4sh at this point and they're very vague aside from the top.

I won't disagree, but I'd argue that this game has waaaaaaaaaaay fuzzier lines between good and bad than Brawl did.

Usually a while after release, I don't know the time-tables, but probably the year anniversary of the release will be around when the first official tier-lists are put out.

I've always sort of seen Melee as the opposite of Brawl in terms of balance. With Smash 4, I feel that any character can dominate. Certain characters like :4jigglypuff:are often seen as being mediocre, But I've won with :4jigglypuff: a lot more than I've lost. Every character has Positives & Negatives, So to get good results with a character, You need to take advantage of the positives and work around the negatives. I've never had problems against :4diddy: or :4sonic:, though :4zss: and :4sheik:are rather tricky to fight.

yeah it is look.

Smash 4 = balanced

Brawl = not balanced

but in all seriousness, even with meta knight removed brawl was about as balanced as melee was. Olimar, IC, Snake, Marth, Falco, they would still dominate.
