Is there like a small delay in between shielding after dashing online?

When i'm in the training room or offline, shielding during a dash works instantly. When in a match however, it feels as if there's some delay in between the two, which causes me to eat a lot of unnecessary hits. This happens even in my lagless matches. I'm using a LAN adapter if that means anything, which it probably does.

Yes i think its how the game is...when you first start a dash you cant shield until a few moments later.

This is how is get hit the most...
Its something i have noticed...
Can you run and shield instantly offline?
I use a LAN adapter too

More or less, yeah. I've lost tons of matches because of that BS. This existed even before I started using the LAN adapter.

A dash is made up of three parts:
- the acceleration animation aka when you initially start your dash
- the actual running animation aka while your holding your control stick either right or left
- the skidding animation aka when you let go of your control stick to end the dash

You can only cancel the actual running animation with shield.

I used to have a similar problem as you OP but then I figured out that whenever I tried cancelling my dash with shield, i would subconsciously let go of the control stick right before pressing the R button. This would always result in me entering the skidding animation and pretty much running into attacks lol

So is there anyway around it? Or not?

You want to hit shield during the actual running animation so just make sure you don't let go of the control stick too early when you first hit shield.
