Is there any way to import my own music into Project M?

Step 1: Obtain a BRSTM. These can be found at http://www.brawlcustommusic.com or http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php They can also be made by hand if you know how to do it.

Step 2: Rename the BRSTM to the correct song id you wish to replace. That list can be downloaded from my post,

Step 3: Place file in the "projectm>pf>sound>strm" directory.

Congratulations, you have custom music.
How are they made by hand? If there are any resources for this I would like to see them.
There are numerous ways to go about creating them and several tools you can use; the most popular/convenient (imo) being Brstm Converter and BrawlBox

The real difficulty is the looping aspect of BRSTMs, which requires an audio editing software such as Audacity or Goldwave. If you prefer your music to loop properly or perfectly, then I recommend getting one (I use goldwave).
If you could care less and only want the song in the game in some shape or form, then BRSTM Converter is all you need. You run the program, set the loop type to "Loop start to end" press ok, and select your MP3/Wav. It'll convert it for you and that's it.

If you do prefer proper looping songs, then a combination of Brawlbox w/ audio editor is the way to go. A lazier method with BBox for getting loops is to open a .wav in brawlbox (click file>new>Brstm audio stream) and adjust the sliders until you feel as though it loops ok enough. I detest this method because it doesn't follow a proper protocol and can ruin loops imo.

For perfect loops, I've made a tutorial of my own utilizing Brawlbox and Goldwave. Recommended if you care deeply about quality control. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TT6LaIsldyk
This method may feel time consuming at first, but once you master it, you'll be pumping out quality loops in no time.

The last, last, last alternative is to ask someone else to make them for you, like me. Though that puts the requester at the mercy of the maker's schedule.

KAR-MA PO-LICE.

There is, you convert them to the BRSTM format using the right tools. and find a loop.

Songs end up pretty dumb though, as they have to either loop or end.
Just play music on your stereo and turn ingame music down.

Or stick well looped game music in fo sure.

I personally use Audacity and make sure loopable start points are divisble by 14336. Match up the end point as necessary, convert and test until satisfactory in Bbox and you're good to go.

Divisible by 14336? What does that mean? I do have Audacity.

Also, what is BRSTM and how do I get the songs into Smash itself?

I know Xerno kind of touched on it, but his post is very confusing except for the directory part.

Oh whoops, some terminology stuff. You want to set your measurement units in Audacity to samples and then to find the loop point you want and divide that number by 14336. Round to the closest whole number amd then multiply it by 14336. This is your loop start sample. A BRSTM is the file format used for loopable music in Brawl.

I did more than 'kinda', it's simply beyond your level of grasp.

Both of the links Xermo posted are huge resources for already converted songs. brawlcustommusic is focused on everything video game soundtrack related while Brawl Vault has that plus other sources (although tbh, it's hideously laid out for hunting down BRSTMs).

Guys, I'm not looking for already converted songs. I listen to stuff no one has probably ever converted.

Does anyone know where I can find a Mac version of Brawl Box?

If you don't convert your song to loop regardless of where you decide to set your loop start point (you can set it to 0 if you're feeling lazy and just want it done), it will trail off and end without resetting.

I don't care about looping it. The immersion is different when it's part of the game itself.
Brstm Converter

STEP 1. OPEN PROGRAM
STEP 2. CLICK THE OK BUTTON
STEP 3. LOCATE MP3
STEP 4. YOU'RE DONE. RENAME THE CONVERTED FILE USING AN ID FROM THE LIST I GAVE YOU, AND PUT THAT FILE ON THE SD CARD

Also, a BRSTM is a filetype. It isn't some magic item that pops out of the page. But in the case of Brawlcustommusic, EVERYTHING IS A BRSTM

That's what I planned to do. Thanks for actually being helpful.

What's this Narpas Sword's guy deal? I've only seen him make like 10 posts so far, but he's completely insufferable.

I mean, I only ****ing wrote a guide on 3 different methods to converting a BRSTM, including the method you were looking for, but I guess you didn't read it.

I did read it, but you used jargon without explaining it.

Common sense would tell you that "set loop type" or "loop start to end" referred to commands in the actual program. But whatever.

I'm running into problems on one specific stage. The Yoshi Brawl stage seems to change my custom music back to the normal music once night falls. What gives?

The track "Obstacle Course" has 2 files that accompany it. Those being E02 (Normal) and E07 (Winter).
You can either replace E07 with a song of your choice, or opt for putting your music over the other slots and turning Obstacle course off.
