Is there an alternative to FADC?

Hey, I'm having trouble executing the Focus Attack Dash Cancel on the Nintendo 3DS XL and I'm wondering if anyone else is having problems with it as well. I have only done it once and idk why I can't anymore. Wondering if there is an alternative way to use this tech.

Right after you hit your opponent, double tap a direction (left or fight). You will cancel said animation and you will be free to take another course of action.

No, but THANKS! This works Didn't understand why others could do it and I couldnt.
