Are there any free programs that you can use to rig models for Brawl Box?

For free software, your best bet is probably Blender. I hear 3ds Max has better compatibility with the file formats used by Brawl, but it's commercial software.

I heard Blender is good for models, but something about the bones make it incompatible with brawl.

Yeah, that's probably what I was thinking of. Looking around a bit more brings up a few people with the same question, and the end result of all of them is "you need to have/find someone with 3ds Max for rigging". Sorry I can't be of more help.

Actually, its possible to get 3ds max free now completely legit from their website. make an account there, register as a student, and then you can download most of the programs with a student license. the only thing it asks for is the school name and the website. you can get 3dsmax 2012-15 atm i believe. happy modding.
