Hell no. The online is much MUCH better than Brawl ever was. Though of course it depends on how good your internet itself is.

I have 300 mb/20 up and I have little to no lag online, either playing against my friend 10 minutes away from me or against someone elsewhere in the states. Hell, even playing against some Japanese players I haven't had much lag.

My friend who has 30 mb download doesn't have much lag issues either.

TL;DR: Online is much better this time around.

Brawl was unplayable 9/10 of the time. about every 3rd attempt i get a player in For Glory that the connection likes with the occasional hiccup.

All of the matches I've joined have been in super slowmotion. My Internet has handled much more demanding online games undaunted, so I don't know what the problem is. I also don't know about the geography of my random opponents.

Since the problem could be my Internet, I'm refraining from online matches until I get it figured out, since I don't want to be the reason other people are getting slowmo matches.

I have had barely any problems with online. It happens rarely enough that I know it's the other person's fault.

SSB3DS Connection > Brawl's Lagfest

Granted SSB3DS still lags at times but not to the point where the round is unplayable. They did better this time.

Oh it's MILES better than Brawl. You get the occasional bad matches here and there, but it's pretty great for the most part.

If you have a good connection and your opponent does too, it feels just the same as local play. Brawl online was ghastly...

I have had a few laggy matches, but i'm assuming it was the other people having a poor connection.

Every 4-player match I've played online was an absolute lagfest

However in just about every 1v1 match, it's near flawless, so it can't be my connection (for the most part)

It's a little laggy, but I got derpy Xfinity so it'll do that a lot. But my 1v1 weren't too bad for the most part. If I had great Internet, then I know it'll be a whole lot better.

No. From my experience, it's definitely better than Brawl whether it be in 1v1 For Glory or a 4-way For Fun game. Yeah, there are the occasional lag spikes, but it's less persistent than Brawl was.

You have to understand that the game is Peer to Peer. So if there is lag it is due to your connection with you and the other player. In 4 Player scenarios everyone is connecting to a single player who acts as a host. So yeah that can occasionally it can lag if the host doesn't have the strongest connection.

Note that in Peer to Peer games it usually selects the player with the best connection. I don't know if it does that for Smash 4. I would assume so.

At times, it's the same. At times, it's better. At times, it's worse. It's random, essentially. I've had bad luck, getting really poor matches quite often, but sometimes it does better. Input lag is the least of my problems, though, since that's manageable. Stutters vary greatly depending on your connection and luck.

I've had some lag, but I think it was due to my connection (the connection where I'm playing is not good for other uses either). But most of my games have been at least fairly smooth.

Biggest plus is the addition of 1v1 games. I like 1v1 games and it also has the effect of reducing lag compared to 4 player FFA.
