I consider sonic my main/sub-main and I feel that whenever I play my friend or go on for glory Its way to easy to body people. Side-B > jump > Uair > Uair twice puts them at about 50%-60% then a quick bair will gimp. obviously not every match is like that but you get the idea. I have only seen one person on for glory to beat my sonic and he just pk fire spam and Bthrow to kill without stopping -.- I feel like I'll never know if I am good with sonic or if he really is what everyone is calling him...OP. I also will never no if I get better with him because they chance of me finding someone good on for glory is very difficult. anybody else feel like this?

For you to really test yourself, you should look into finding a Smash scene offline. Sonic is definitely good this game, and his learning curve on a basic level is not difficult. However, at advanced levels of play it comes down more to a player's own ability to read their opponent, not how easy it is to play your character. Sonic, online, can get away with alot of things he wouldn't be able to get away with offline aswell, so you can't use glory only to test your skills. Try to go to a tournament and really see how easy it is to play your character at a top competitive level.

tl;dr, he's easy to play on a basic level, which alot of characters are, but when you get into his higher level of play you'll see you'll need to learn alot more with your character. But this is just my input, and I'm sorta new at this game so you're probably better than me buehueue

A lot of people will be inexperienced against Sonic which is very easy to take advantage of as Sonic players thanks to your big damage output, speed, and mix-ups. He's definitely a character you'd just have to take on in order to figure out what works. Though, you can't get comfy because once you find a player that knows how to deal with your Spin Dash and Grab shenanigans, games become much closer. A lot of the Sonics I've played online didn't know how to deal when I projectile'd their Spin Dash.

Could you please not triple post? You can just respond to multiple people in the same post.

... Eh~?

You know, I sincerely hope the bolded part doesn't become a common excuse like it did in Brawl.

That kind of s*** has no place here anymore. Sonic is actually a tournament threat.

Well, there isn't much else for me to say. Other sage Sonics have already given you what I assume is a complete answer to your question. At this point, I'd be a broken record / old man that you see yelling at kids to get off his front lawn.

TL;DR easy character to play, difficult to master.

Don't know what I said that could be considered an "excuse" for something or that Sonic isn't good. I simply said inexperienced players have a hard time against Sonic; Please don't put words into my mouth. I quite think Sonic is pretty tournament viable and is definitely a high tier.

Oh, the reason I didn't give a real answer is because I had responded to a very similar thread earlier that day. I'll post here what I ranted about over there.

Anyone that claims Sonic is easy to use clearly doesn't know anything about him outside the ones they've lost to on For Glory because they can't handle being blue balled.

The amount of shield cancels, jump cancels, and other spin nonsense that character has is absurd. This isn't even including understanding how they work, when to use each one, etc.

:093:
Sonic's definitely been buffed this time around, but he still suffers from very similar shortcomings that he did in Brawl. Biggest buff he has is in his KO potential and shield pressure, but his approach options actually got worse with the removal of aerial spin charge shield cancel and the added lag on Bair (RIP SHFF Bair). His landing options suck too because of that, and the increased autocancel distance on dair.

The easier KO set-ups make him a little more beginner friendly, I'll admit, but yes, it takes a lot of dedication to actually understand and utilize all of his options. Much more viable this time around which I'm grateful for as well.

:093:
Realize now this is more me being sassy than giving any kind of solid advice, but yeah. Classic.
