My Wii U is somehoe unable to update and is still sitting on 4.9 or something, and thus I can't go online. Is this game still worth buying for SP, 2P and parties?

It depends, do you have people to play with in real life do they enjoy Smash a lot? If so, definitely yes! Every single SP mode has co-op (except for Special Orders)!

Like Naoshi said, if you have locals to play with then definitely.
If you don't, it doesn't mean no. It all depends on how you want to play.

Assuming you have the 3DS version, ask yourself what you have to gain from the Wii U version in addition. If it makes you excited to think about, then definitely.

If you still don't know, do what my good friend always tells me to: Flip a coin. Heads yes, tails no. If you're not happy with the outcome, then you know to make the other decision. (Yay philosophy.)

Good luck deciding.

PS - It's a sad thing about your Wii U. Does it have a warranty? Talk to the retailer of your supplier or Nintendo customer support.

Considering how you said yourself that you want it for multiplayer anyway, yes, it is worth it.

Personally though, I don't feel it would be worth it if you had nobody to play with, but luckily, that's not the case for you.

I'll definitely get it then. It's worth it just for Mewtwo (atleast on 3DS) and the Soundtrack CD then. Also, it seems to habe something to do with Homebrew and normally is pretty easily fixed, but somehow none of the things that'd normallt fix this error. It's Errorcode 162-3006 btw.

I find it fun unlocking all the trophies for all the characters in Classic or All Star Mode. I enjoy playing by myself and getting my high scores. But I know there isn't many people like me so I'd say if you enjoy these modes and unlocking things like trophies and customs, thanit's a great single player. But if you haven't enjoyed this win previous games, I'd suggest you try and play the games with friends. Yet never the less, I'll say it's worth it.

I just realised there are event matches and special orders, totally forgot about these. Yep that just solidified my decision even more.

I know this isn't a tech support thread, but this is what I found online for you.
1.-Download the update without installing, this is achieved as follows:

1.1. go to console settings, choose console update

1.2. find the update and when prompted to download the update, choose the option to upgrade later. With this console downloads the update in the background without installing

1.3. press the home button (picture of a house) and choose the download to check the status and progress of the download of the update itself that should reach one hundred percent option.

2. just when you have finished downloading the update turn off the console with the normal off button

3.-turn on the console and choose the Settings option again we go to the internet option and connect the console to a different network wi fi connection to the first we download the update (in my case I connect the console to a network wi fi shared my mobile phone) with this change the IP address of the console. no matter that the new connection does not have wifi internet

4. again we choose the Setup menu and choose console update.

5.-as we have already downloaded previously proceed to update the console installation

6.-with this seamless upgrade installed. then switch to the Wi Fi network you were working normally.
Steps pasted here from Jogamore.
I hope you can fix it!

PS- This is why I don't screw with Homebrew anymore.

Wait, where did you find this? I mean, I was asking in a Homebrew forum and Noone could help me. Thanks!

The game can't run without the recent update, I'm assuming for the Amiibo support. Fortunately, it seems the game disk itself contains the update.
I got my Wii U last Friday which I had on layaway at Walmart for over a month beforehand. I did all the setup but skipped over connecting to the internet because I had friends over and just wanted to jump right in to the game. I put the disk in and it said the system needed to update, and it did so while it was offline.
It was pretty neat that the disk contains the system update that it needs to run it. Not sure if your problem is already fixed but that's something to consider.
