It sounds like a stupid question because it probably is, but i'm just concerned because less and less people are going to play the 3DS version.

Yes, I think it will. Just with smaller tournaments, or in the worst case as a side event.

Considering Smash 3DS has some fantastic stages that WiiU does not (Arena Ferox, Yoshi's Story, Prism Tower), and Customs are much easier to legalize for 3DS tournaments, I think it'll continue.

Likely. one of the advantages of such a thing is that everyone brings there own setup so its a matter of getting the person who's playing to fight his opponent and then he can just move on. Wii U will probably be the norm just because of the fact that controls are easier and more comfortable on a Controller than the 3DS itself.

3DS will still be usable because of its ease of setup, there's almost no reason not to have a 3DS-based event since it has a following and is easy to set up. But it won't be a main attraction, and will likely fade into being a side event eventually.

Hey quick question (not really very quick sorry); I don't own a 3DS or any other Nintendo system and I'm contemplating buying a 3DS XL with Smash soon. I smashed every day all day on N64 and Melee for years and I've been very interested in the newest iteration. Because of my lifestyle and profession I can't really buy a Wii U or a TV etc etc. My questions is this: buy a 3DS XL now because of great deals and smash away, or wait for the N3DS in the next several months and smash with the C-stick? Any and all advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

You can probably wait for the new 3ds xl. The new 3ds xl seems to be better than the older 3ds xl. A c-stick may be helpful and will have built in amiibo support if you're interested in those. If you only just want to play smash then I don't see why not to buy a 3ds xl now. It will be cheaper anyway to just buy a 3ds xl just for smash. It just depends if you plan to play more games than smash since the new 3ds will have some exclusive games.

3ds makes playing a lot more accessible as not everyone bought a Wii U (while many bought the 3ds version). With the Wii U you have to be concerned with much more logistics: TV, setup, adapter, location etc. Whereas the 3ds you can play pretty much anywhere.

Considering Smash 3DS has some fantastic stages that WiiU does not (Arena Ferox, Yoshi's Story, Prism Tower), and Customs are much easier to legalize for 3DS tournaments, I think it'll continue.
Agreed, the 3ds has great stages as mentioned above. Honestly, I also like the 3ds controls (granted I do use the XL), I find that it's easier to roll my thumb from jump to A/B; I guess it's really player preference.

Got this game recently. I'm really enjoying it and hope it does continue.
thb I don't think the community would just drop this game so fast, it's still in it's prime.

OP is talking specifically about the 3DS version, not Sm4sh as a whole.

I'm going to speculate that 3DS will actually outlive Wii U because I don't think there will be a portable Smash 5 unless the next Nintendo console is integrated with its own portable (which is possible).

The 3ds version is SUPER convienet. "smash on the go" isn't to be taken for granted.

I love my 3ds smash. In fact I've defended it several times.

That being said, I DON'T think it will have AS big of events as Smash Wii U. For one thing alone. Smash Wii U local has NO lag, whereas Smash 3ds locals DO experience lag sometimes. Also a 3ds is not the BEST controller.

With the coming of the new 3ds xl though, since it has a cstick, I'm hopeful. Also it WOULD be easier to organize, all things considered.

I guess we'll just wait and see.
