Well I have been playing smash 64 on the console version only. I rarely have anyone to play with. So most of the time I play a level 9 computer.

Is this any good practice? I understand computers can't tech so I try not to abuse that into my game play....

I feel it has made me a pretty good player...

Playing a against CPUs can help you practice combos and dodging. So Computers can help you get better.

No, it's not.

First of all, it's a level 9 computer. Since you're not just practicing tech skill vs them, but "mindgaming" the AI, it eases you into habits that are, well bad. Alk, you didn't look that he said lvl 9, first of all, and dodging is not something that's practiced, since part of "dodging" is heavily dependant on prediction since not all of us have a 1/60 second reaction time.

Also, if you want to practice for tech skill, might as well just do training mode. You can reset the match, and they don't move [practicing combos against a slightly moving opponent is eh, it affects part of your prediction and forms some habits].

EDIT: Is the above mentioned something that's lulworthy? :p

EDIT 2: Due to attack delay, you might have more than 1/60s, but you're lucky if you have a reaction time faster than 12/60 frames. -_- Which is 200ms which is below the average. I'm like 216 last I checked.

I didn't think it was but at least it's entertaining to me... When ever I do get a human opponent, I am able to do well though.

So I should just go to training mode and hit stuff... My tech skill is decent I think it could be a lot better. I can only shield break jump 60% of the time.

I'll be practicing in training mode from now on I guess... Hopefully that will be entertaining.

I don't play the online one because I haven't got the adapter that allows me to use a N64 controller... Should I buy one?

I'll remember that and I've only been playing the Computer for a day out of all the times I played Super smash bros 64...

Most of the time I was in training mode having fun.

At least you should try playing against 2 cpus at the same time, since 1 level 9 cpu is too easy and it wont make you better

there is no point in playing 2 cpus at the same time, in fact it makes you worse. There are a few reasons this is true.

CPUS attack each other if the TA is on. This sucks because then your not getting team practice.
CPU's all go beserk if the TA is off. This sucks because TA is on in tourneys for teams.

If you want team practice, play 2 vs 2.
Never play 1v2 or 1v3.

Otherwise, CPU's are better to train with in ssb than in other games. Overall they play moderately well and frankly, the Fox CPU is good (LOL up air). Do not concentrate on exploiting CPU errors (not recovering again when you hit them during recovery, randomly killing them) because this will make you good vs CPUS but bad because you will expect people to do it.

CPUS are good for practice for combos, or I use them sometimes to practice my hand speed for DJC and other stuff like that.

Earth, right?
Fighting 2 people won't help cuz you really won't be in situations like that for real...
Computers are good practice but after awhile you can figure out how they fight and overcome them easily...

The fox CPU is better than any real person at juggling uairs, holy **** I hate that rat *******.

Um, anyway, I'd call it decent for practicing combos and such, as long as you mix it in with training mode and human opponents. The CPUs have good reaction time and playing against them will improve your technical skills (reaction time, timing, etc). Unfortunately, they're also ********, which means you're going to get a rude awakening moving from CPU-only into real opponents. How many humans are you going to fight who won't ****ing jump off the stage and spike you in the middle of your completely open recovery?

A lot of people who are under experienced wont try for good spikes actually... people who cant use Dair without FastFalling xP

i would say never play CPUs...NEVER! Training mode is good for combos, it keeps track of them for you..its crazy!
