Nintendo's plan seems to be, "Okay, let's announce the bare minimum of what we need to at the actual Digital Event. Then we will announce and showcase more games so that more media outlets make more Articles about us than Sony or Microsoft because they are basically forced to."

So far it seems to be working. On most outlets I see them covering Nintendo more than the other two because all of the information is staggered and cannot be contained in a single article.

The direct showed gameplay for most of the games it announced. That's more than I can say for some of the stuff shown by the other companies. Plus, if there isn't much to show due to development stages, they do what they can. Yoshi had quite a lot said about it, Zelda got a freakin story as its lead in to explain what the goal of the game is. There was a lot of content in the Direct, but this gave them the chance to go even further in depth during the Treehouse live show. Which they did. Quite well.
