So I plan to upgrade from my cobalt blue 3ds to a new 3dsxl but Im wondering if it is competitive to play with it snce it has a cstick and the old 3ds didnt even though I still rocked without the cstick since I dont think its necessary but anyway, is it competitive to keep playing 3ds Smash?

Nope, New 3DS is too fragile to play competitively, but is still a way to train your Smash if you don't have Wii U.

Actually the circlepqd is kind of broken on my cobalt blue 3ds, but I dont actually have a Wii U amd dont plan to get one im the near future since I play more with my friends at college than at home since at home I only play online and that isnt as competitive, so what would you suggest me?

would say 3ds so far... i mean, if you are gonna use a 3ds for any game aside smash, get it. Newer games will be released soon only for the new 3ds. but if you are only goiing for competitive play, get a refurbished original 3ds or keep your current one. besides, the new 3ds adds new features on smash. for example, the C stick can be used for charged smash attacks instead of holding the circle pad in a direction while holding A

I play SSB for 3DS and my circle pad is fine. No harm done to it and I feel very competitive when playing online but I don't like to show it. Also I take it very easy when I am attacking others and then I either win or lose depending on the opponent's skill level. All of this proves that you don't have to waste money on a new 3DS when you already have one that is functional for you.

Well.
I have a New 3DSXL and, beside the fact that it is way faster to load ( SM4SH too ) I don't feel like it has an advantage on the regular 3DS. The first times you will play the New 3DS using the CStick, then you will go back to the old way ( inputting a direction with the DPad while holding A ) and using the CStick only some times. But, it's, for sure way faster to load up things and I feel like the Online lag less with my New 3DS ( mainly ForFun, and ForGlory 2v2 ).
Like, I'd keep my old 3DS if I didn't get one for free ( Yep', I won one at a tourney ), so why keep something old if you can have something newer.
Do you choice, if you can, go for it.

As a tournament participant and someone that plays on a new 3ds xl every now and again, I would say, no, it's not. My biggest problem is the control pad's sensitivity and lack of precise directional ability. Without the notches in many other controllers, it's not nearly as easy to be precise with certain moves (Pika's quick attack comes to mind) and any teleport really. My second problem is that the buttons just a little too small though that's more personal preference than anything. If you're just trying to play for fun or to experiment with new techs, strats, etc. then, by all means, feel free to practice on the 3ds (that's what I use it for). I wouldn't dedicate myself to it at a tournament caliber though.

*Note* I am saying this as someone who played melee very early on in its lifespan and have used the gamecube controller for smash ever since. Ergo, bias, over a decade's worth of it :p

Well, thimg is, my old 3ds circlepad is having issues, it tilts to the down direction after pressing it so I have to strongly input up to get my circlepad back to neutral, and my 3ds is over 5 years old thats why I want tobupgrqde, and also I domt only want it for smash (although I think thats what Im gonna play the most) I want it to upgrade, my original 3ds had fewer issues before smash must admit, but I think it imfluemced the my circlepad was still having some light issues before smash, and I got the game since launch so I think that it actually influemced that I played smash on it, but is the new 3dsxl sturdiers than my original 3ds?

Then, by all means, upgrade lol. I upgraded when my old 3ds stopped charging and the screen broke and I play Monster Hunter 4 on it more than anything else. The C stick is worth it. I haven't had actual problems with it yet. I'm just picky about the control stick, it's not actually in poor shape and that's after playing smash and MH4 on it since March I think. The only problem I've had with it is, there is a small crack from the camera to the top of the system and I have no idea where it came from lol. It's not causing any problems and I'm keeping an eye on it so it doesn't get any bigger and mess everything up.
