I'm sorry if someone already made a post like this, but do you guys think it's worth it to buy the 3ds version of the game? I own the wiiu version, but all my friends have the 3ds version.

If you really wanna buy the 3DS version so you can play your friends either locally or online, then go for it, unless you can get them over to play the Wii U. It's pretty much the same game but with less stuff and Smash Run. It's still a brilliant game, but I have both versions of the game and I only play the Wii U one, unless I'm out or want to play some friends online. I guess it's up to you, but it's probably better to look at the other countless 3DS games if you haven't got some you'd like, probably a better investment! :)

Considering you can use the 3DS as a controller for the Wii U version, it'd probably be easier to do that instead of buying a whole new game.

You actually need the 3ds version to do that

Personally, when I saw the new smash, I thought "that's a game I want to be able to pull out and play anywhere." If you want that, I'd say go for it.

I like being able to play smash on the go and at home, so it was a no brainer for me. The 3DS version does have less content, but it's content tailored for a portable experience that works very well for the system. Smash Run is a lot of fun, with the only real complaint being that there is only one map (though it's pretty huge!). I've heard many a player wish they had a version of Smash Run for the Wii U. (Two Player, semi adventure mode-ish locally with a With Friends version online to mimic what the 3DS has.)

Also about half of the arenas on the 3ds version are different than the Wii U, so you may find battles that are more fun on one version or the other. I enjoy friendlies on Dreamland as it both reminds me of my childhood and feels like I'm playing on a Kirby inspired obstacle course, for example.

In essence, the 3DS version has a Smash 64 presentation asthetic. Getting into things is fast and extras (fun or not) have either been cut or streamlined for time. Wii U version feels grander, with larger variety and presentation of battles and more extra like the 2 previous console versions have.

Other than the game differences, if your friends will still be playing when you get one then I'd say go for it. It's fun to have matches during lunch breaks! (I usually switch up between Smash and Monster Hunter at work currently!)

If your friends have the 3DS version, I'd say get it. Personally, I still use it to play against friends without the U version, and for custom move uploading.

3ds version is worth it. I think my friend told me that you can sync info. (like custom parts for example) which is included with connecting to the wii u version like many posts said before. And the best part being.... IT IS PORTABLE

No it's not. Not even for playing with your friends, multiplayer lags like hell. Just connect the 3DS of your friends to the real game on the WiiU.

@ Vintage Creep Vintage Creep If you turn off power saver mode, there isn't much lag on the 3ds version. (The 3DS reduces the quality of the wireless connection when on power saver mode) Almost no lag if he gets the New 3DS as well. (The game has better optimization for the New 3DS than the older one, which isn't just a power thing since the game will actually use the new specs) I found this out after getting the game and having friendlies at Work. Just make sure no one is using the Microwave while you're playing and you should be fine. :joyful:

lol I can't believe people are still hating on this version of the game.
Yes, the 3DS version is worth it. The handheld has a vast library of games too, so yeah. Up to you.

Of course it's worth it. Want to play Smash on the go? Want to experience a new way to play a video game that has been on home consoles until now? Then get it.

Although elitists can come here and there and bash on that version for no reason.

It's actually the version I play most often. There are plenty of stages I prefer over what the Wii U version has, and Smash Run is so much better than that abomination known as "Smash Tour". I don't do multiplayer with it, though, so I can't comment on that. But if your friends own this version and do multiplayer amongst themselves, then yes -- it's absolutely worth it!

yes, buying both can indicate that you are a worthy smasher, also it lets you and your friends connect to your wii u, with your 3ds if they don't have one, or you don't have an extra controller, so yeah, go for it

Pros for Smash 3DS
  • Smash Run (better than smash tour imo)
  • Portable
  • Better Classic Mode imo
  • Better stages imo
Cons
  • Potential broken circle pad
  • Worse graphics (obviously)
  • Less modes/options
  • No stagebuilder :(

but yes, zelduh is correct there are less modes, and the graphics are differently cheap, but if you have the wii u version already that shouldn't be a prop
the way to have a non broken circle pad, is to be a little more gentle...
and you forgot one other pro,
STREETSMASH
meet more smashers in your area/ far away and see their main and profile, it isnt a time passer tho...

I didn't put Street Smash as a "pro" because imo I think it is a really boring mode, I've only played it once too get the challenges in practice mode.
