Is it vital to use retreating aerials as Diddy Kong?

After playing the game for 8 years and never touching the c-stick, I realized how useful it can be (retreating aerials). I'm trying to learn to use it but I'm having the toughest time. Do I even need to learn this to improve my Diddy play? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Not yet. CStick halts horizontal momentum at the moment and makes it less than ideal. It's good for falling enemies or when you are back turned to the enemy and are in shield. Jump out of shield -> retreating bair. The other aerials don't have a retreating application.
