Is it possible to play characters over each other(IE play Sonic over Olimar?)

Ok I saw one of Mastaklo's posts on ESH and he had Sonic and Shadow fighting, and he said something about playing Sonic as Olimar... now is this possible? Like does Sonic keep all his special attacks and physics and such?

Could someone explain how to do this fairly thoroughly because I've never really used BrawlBox to such an extent, and I'm assuming it would involve this.

My next question, is can any character go over any character? Like I'd like to have Marth over someone else I don't care for like Jiggs, so I could have Marth vs Roy.

I'm only interested because:

1) Since I might have free time later today, I'm going to overhaul all the hacks I got,(since it's been a while since I even touched Brawl, been too busy with school)
2) I have a feeling that the clone engine thing is just impossible, so I've pretty much completely given up hope on that, so I want to do the next best thing

Anyone mind clarifying this for me? :3

Yes, it's perfectly possible, but there are limitations. The character being replaced must have fewer bones than the character replacing it. Also, you would need to transfer over any articles and animations to the replaced character's FitCharacterMotionEtc.pac. You'd also need to replace the texture data and the mdl0 in the replaced character's texture files. Aside from that, I think you're covered. Also, don't give up hope on a clone engine. PW has some results (it's not finished, but he's made progress, look around on these forums a bit.), and it's not impossible, that's what they said about models from other games, custom movesets, and even loading textures from an SD card. It's possible, and it's happening.
