Is it legal to pause during a match?

You know. When you transform with Zelda, pausing the game allows you to instantly transform into Sheik? When you play friendlies, do your friends allow it? (If you we're using Sheik and wanted to recover you could switch to Zelda.) My friends allow it...

Depends on the situation. In friendlies, whatever, who cares? In a tournament setting, if you're sick and have a coughing fit mid-match, no one will fault you. However, if you're pausing in order to gain a tactical advantage, e.g. the Zelda->Shiek transition you're referring to, most people would be displeased and I believe that would fall under the "excessive or unnecessary pausing" clause in most tournament rules.

Iunno if it's technically illegal, but your oponent will DEFINITELY be displeased with you... you'll PROBABLY get DQd... you've gotta learn when it's strategic to switch.

Most tournaments don't allow pausing at all, if you do pause on accident it's usually forgiven though.

Zelda transform pausing is obvious though, you'll probably have to forfeit the match if you do it on purpose and get caught.

It's really up to the tournament host's discretion.

More than likely...No, then they have a very large person chuck you out, DQ'ed! XP

In all seriousness, probably not, since the opponent will probably notice and call over the judge or person running the tournament. You probably should check with the judge first before anything. Sometimes the people will just turn the pause to OFF in the rules menu.
