O.K Im not even going to lie, 90% of why I started this disussion was because of this picture I had seen (I know, dont correct me):

Anyway, Its crazy, (not just the picture) its the fact that Gamestop:

>Over Charge on thier used stuff...Games and systems...

>There shipments suck,...they didnt have Halo 2 when every other store had it (pawn shops had it), and now they dont even have wii's... and it seems like every other store is getting them before these losers..

>There "New games" aren't even new, Im mean whos to say your not just giving me a used version...? Thier games aren't in the boxes...not nearlly 95% of them are.

>(I dont know how it is across the U.S but) In Houston, they hire idiots who know nothing about video games... yesterday I heard to G.S clerks talking about Brawl, and one said..."yeh I heard metal gear is gonna be in the new super smash melee...", the other clerk said "yeh he's probably going to be the best character"....WHO THE **** IS METAL GEAR!? YOU ******!... which leads on to my next point...

>They wont hire me.....

>They give you crap for your games...at best like 40% of its total value....

Anyway, they seem like a monopaly in a sense...somthing like wal-mart, and I fear soon they will take over cause *****'s keep buying from them...(learn to use ebay), and soon tthey will be like the only place that sells games and accessories... anyways just Discuss how ya'll feel about the situation.

Their income will drop if they can't stay competitive. Just don't buy their stuff if you believe it doesn't worth it.

Beyond the fact they do false representation (or however it's called in english) when they say their games are brand new when you see they're not in their original boxes, I don't see why you'r raving so much. It's a videogame store, like many else, so just walk the other side of the street and stop going to Gamestop.

Seriously, if you are convicted enough, you'll do 20 more minutes of car to find another place where you'll be able to buy quality products, dumb employees or not.

The guy (or girl) who drew the box is made of CD cases.

What are we supposed to debate about? If this topic revolves only around fraud, don't accuse Gamestop of not hiring you nor not selling their games at prices you like. EB games also has a really bad buying price when you want to sell your "almost not used" games, but that's how business rolls.

How did you even get back here?

Gamestop/EB only makes money off of the used titles. If you are selling your stuff to them, you can't really expect to be making much as that is their main way to turn a profit. They get a VERY small percentage of stuff from sales.

If it really bothers you, do Digital Downloads. It's the future of gaming.

Well Solid Snake from Metal Gear will be in Brawl. Otherwise I don't like their business practices and I do avoid shopping there when possible. Before the EB/GS merger, they were pretty cool competitors. But since then they don't even pretend compete.

Other then selling opened games as new, their buying and selling practices, they have also had lawsuits for failure to pay overtime. Google GameStop Lawsuits.

I'm a game collector, personally, so I don't sell games. My friends will usually sell their used games to me or each other, because I'll pay a fair sight better than GS. Otherwise ebay.

Does GameStop commit fraud, probably.

Your continuing in the Debate Hall will be up for review then.

Digital Distribution (my bad) is the future of video games. To see it in practice look up such stuff as Gametap, Steam, S2games.com, PSN, XBL, Virtual Console, and even EB games offers digital distribution on their store's site. It's cutting out the middle man and making publishers much more money.

This is the most ridiculous post I have ever seen. I worked as a store manager for Gamestop, so I know most everything about the business, and honestly this is nothing more than an extended whine. I will preface this though by saying that since we are in a capitalist market and your dollar speaks louder than anything, you always have to choice to buy elsewhere if you feel that it meets your needs better.

I don't know how you see overcharging, unless you are talking about the .18 you save at Walmart. Games come down in price at a predictable rate according to their popularity and rarity, according to the law of supply and demand, and I almost always find better deals at Gamestop unless Walmart is closing out the item, basically when it chooses not to carry it anymore. Systems are the same price everywhere.

Shipments are not something that Gamestop has control over, the companies themselves decide who to ship to and how many to ship. You think Gamestop likes to run out of things? That's bizarre. You can be unhappy about it and shop elsewhere, and that's fine, but blaming them is ridiculous.

As for hiring practices, I hired only knowlegable people for my positions. Everyone in my store was capable and knew their videogames well. Beyond that, you hopefully realize that we get over 50 apps for every 1 position that opens up. You also have to have sales experience and maturity, as salesmanship is essential to the job, more than anyone realizes.

As for the used game prices, that is probably the dumbest complaint I have ever seen. You are paying for the convenience of dropping your games off at a store out of the game's value. You pay no overhead, no utilities, no shipping, no labor, you don't even have to work, just walk in and drop it off to get your money. Not to mention they actually want to make a profit on top of all those costs. If you want a better price, sell it on ebay, but then you'd actually have to work, no? It's called capitalism, and if people are willing to pay for that kind of service (and they are), there's no reason to knock it just because you want more money.

I have to say, before I worked at Gamestop, I only bought new. Now I only buy used, because with the 10% off card and the money I save, I practically get a free game every 4 I buy. There's value in it for the customer, if you're willing to accept a used product.

And if you don't like it, file your complaints and shop elsewhere. If enough people agree with you it'll change.

Gamestop/EB only has like 15% of the market too...don't know where you are getting your numbers. Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart anyone?
