Hi guys,

We're running our high school's first Smash tournament this Friday, and we are wondering if 2 hours is enough for this tournament format. (We're playing Brawl)

Here is the modified ruleset we are planning to use:

  • Brackets will use a modified Double Elimination style. Most sets will be Bo1. For top 4 [Winner's Bracket], sets will be Bo3. For Grand Finals, the set(s) will be Bo5.

    • ALL Sets in Losers' Bracket [Except Loser's Finals (Bo3)] will be Bo1
    • Brackets will be created based on past records
  • Items are set to off

  • Each match will played with 3 stocks, and an 8:00 time limit

    • If the match reaches the time limit, the leading player wins

There will be about 25 entrants, and we will have 8 setups going.

If you think we should change anything or do anything different, please let us know. We will be hosting one every month, so hopefully we can improve as time goes on.

Thanks.

It'd be tight. Two hours is *very* little. You have around fifty matches to be played. That's about six matches per set up. If most matches take about ten minutes, you're looking about an hour. Not all set ups will be used at once as you get farther into the bracket, though, and I didn't take the best of 3 and 5 sets into account.

You're going to have to start right away and put an emphasis on starting matches and reporting results as fast as possible. Also, if you don't have a couple people you trust dedicated to inputting match results, I doubt the two hours is going to be enough.

Thanks for replying!

It's our first tourney, and we hope it will go well. We actually got our club moderator to extend it 30 more minutes, in case things go longer than expected. We have 5 people assigned for match reporting, so I think we should be fine in that area.

Other than that, thanks again. We're hoping to improve as time goes on, so that everyone can have the best time they can.

How did it go? I am doing something very similar soon, I would like to hear how this type of event ran. Here is my thread, please reply with some feedback if you have a sec: http://smashboards.com/threads/school-club-tourney-and-running-two-tournaments.376230/
