Introducing Partner assists?

What do you all think about Smash bros introducing a Partner assist attack?
What do i mean by this?
It'd almost be a hybrid of Marvel vs. Capcom 1 & Mario Kart double dash.

Each character would have a dedicated partner that can be called upon to perform an attack.
This "assist" for balance reasons i think should have a limit, but that's open for debate.
Now, in addition to this, if the Smash ball attack remains, they could also have a partner smash attack.

Most people wouldn't go for this, but i think it opens up the roster for new faces while still holding onto some old ones.
i.e

Character - Partner
Mario - Luigi
Fox - Falco
Bowser - Baby bowser
Ness - Lucas (or vice versa)
kirby - ( switches between his multiple friends from Dreamland 3)
Link - Zelda
Peach - toad (or even daisy)
Yoshi - Birdo

OR

to be more like double dash, during battle you could switch to your partner tag style, in similar fashion to pokemon trainer. However i feel this route would leave less room for roster space.

Idk, just thinking of something new that can be brought to smash this gen, as I'm sure nintendo is aiming towards.

I like the idea. There can be a mode completely separate from the traditional way of playing. Something a lot of other games have called "tag mode." You pick 3-5 characters and each of them have one stock. When one of them gets KO'd, the next character you picked replaces them.

Roster space wouldn't be affected, you just simply pick from the roster already available. I don't know...how's that sound? I really like the concept though.

It's been talked about a few times. However, instead of official assists, some of us have thought about expanding the assist trophy concept into more or less your concept. It's at least better than how they're glorified pokeballs in Brawl.

nah i dont like the idea of the assists being dedicated to the certain characters. i would rather it be more along the lines of u choosing your assist partner at the beginning, and then u can us them in battle. at least that way we can still get all the other series represented in the same way they would've if they were only assist trophies, and it makes them truly different from the Pokeballs.

I do not like this idea because the logical choice for Zelda's partner is Link and that would further hamper my ZeldaxMarth agenda.
Of course your other idea of a more Double Dash feel or other flexible system is welcome to me, for it does not present a stumbling block to my agendas and I would view it as a great boon
I'd be fine if the in game partner tag thing was as you originally propose. . . if I get another event match 31.

King of Fighters has the best assist method.

Select your main fighter, then select an assist character. (PLEASE DO NOT MAKE "ASSIST ONLY" CHARACTERS LIKE WALUIGI AND LITTLE MAC)

Press a button to call em out and they'll jump to your side and fire off a quick fireball or grab the opponent, or yaknow step up the wackiness in smash bros by having shiek throw down a smokebomb or Diddy drop a banana peel when called to assist.

It's just the balancing of this that is difficult to do. Would ya have a meter, a limited number of uses, or a timer to delay repeated use...

I'm not sure this would happen. If there were some assist-only characters, some fans may be disappointed. On the other hand, if the assists are playable, they'd take up too much space in the roster.

To be completely honest I'd take Partner Assists over glorified pokeballs any day. At least we can feel the flow together with the partner assist I might like as a character/protagonist from other game I like as I get to control him/her completely.

I disapprove of this idea. I think Assist Trophies and Pokemon are good enough.

I dont like the assist idea like marvel vs games but i do like the idea of tag mode where you can pick a set limit of characters(a team of 5 max) all with one stock. When one character dies the next spawns with no pauses in gameplay. I wanted this for ssbb because i played and enjoyed this mode on soul calibur for gamecube.

Or, to be more like double dash and take less place in the roster, they can give a dedicate partner to every characters and make possible combinason (like Mario and Zelda or bowser and luigi) but keep the partner as playable characters and, at the same occasion, give the possibility to make a team of 2 partner (like luigi with Zelda).
