Smash Rookie
Hey, I'm Steven, or "@Dank" in Smash, there isn't really any explanation for my user, it's just kinda something I started using playing Brawl with friends a couple years back. I've played something at least 30 hours of every Smash game except for 64 in a casual environment, but have been starting to take it more seriously and am interested in getting into a more competitive environment with it, which leads me to some of my questions.
First off, I'm from the Houston area, and wanted to know what would be the best way to find local tournaments. I don't know if there's a filter system that can be used when going through the events listed in the forum, but I have gone and looked through and I am capable of finding tournaments there, but it's kind of a long process of going through every event when I only want to see ones within a couple hours of me.
Secondly, I was hoping someone might be able to help direct me to a group dedicated to Houston Smash. I primarily play Project M and Wii U, I don't know if that info helps, but I put about a half hour of search time into looking across facebook and the groups here on the Smashboards and nothing turned up, so I assume I'm just not using the right keywords, because I'm sure some kind of Smash group exists in Houston, if not in my town, which is a suburb of Houston.
As far as basic Intro stuff, like I said above, I mainly play Sm4sh and Project M. I haven't quite hammered out my mains, because I kind of just play who I like and who I do well with, which I've only been playing Project M for a couple weeks now, so I'm unsure there, but with Sm4sh I play a lot of Captain Falcon, Olimar, Ness, ROB, and Dr. Mario. On PM I also play those five(well, I use green Mario, not a Doc skin, but same thing), but in addition I'm checking out Marth/Roy(not sure which I want to put more time into), and Falco, since those two, with Captain Falcon, are the characters I played the most in Melee.
Other basic intro stuff, I'm 19, I'll be 20 in July, I drive a green '92 Ford Ranger, I work as a serviceman(used to be electrical, currently contracting myself, and looking to get into surveying) I used to and still enjoy cooking quite a bit, I live with my girlfriend who complains that, "All you do is play Smash Bros. When you aren't playing it you're watching youtube videos of it." And, that's not true. I also play Bloodborne on her brothers PS4 and occasionally Dark Souls on her laptop.
