You know what Mycats, I think you're heading in the right direction, but it's my person opinion that if they are to redo ssbm, they should do it on the DS, just like they did with mario kart. That would be twice as good, because you would be online, and you could feed your smash addiction 24/4 while still being able to leave the house.

Anyway, Ike pwns any character in brawl, they should just give up now.

ike sadly I don't have DS so I personally don't think that would be a good idea
but if I had a DS I think that would be pretty cool

... they have made the decision to make Melee 2 or Brawl... they chose Brawl. If I'm not mistaken, they were gonna make Melee 2 (essentially) before Sakurai came back

I think "Melee 1.5" lost it's chance of appearing -_-

my idea was that melee 1.5 would be more of an easter egg or maybe an unlockable

I don't think that would happen though(unless like others have mentioned Sakurai didn't come back to work on Brawl).

Though perhaps your SSBM memory card will unlock certain things (special trophies, stickers, etc)

I'd rather them just do Brawl.. don't see the reason to play Melee after Brawl unless it's a total crap game >.>
Different characters, different stages, perhaps different physics. I don't see any reason why people should stop playing Melee after Brawl is released. Sure Brawl may take the spotlight, but it won't completely replace its predecessor. As an Ice Climbers and Doc main, I would be thoroughly disappointed if people stopped hosting Melee tournaments next year.

I believe that your original idea will never happen. Sakurai really has no interest in working on Melee to give it online capabilities, I believe.

Maybe, just maybe, an emulation of versus mode melee online play would be unlockable in Brawl, but I really don't see that happening either.

I think this arises because lots of hardcore smashers are afraid of Brawl in the sense that it will be different than Melee, possibly taking out things such as wavedashing and L-cancelling, but we don't know yet. I believe that Brawl will be a fantastic game in which the hardcore gamer can customize his play to suit him, just like in Melee, and they have nothing to worry about.

You have to give up the old and bring in the new. It'll be like 64.. Every once and a while i play it with some friends for some nostalgia but I play melee more. And I'm not saying i'm completely opposed to playing Melee after Brawl is out.. just they shouldn't make a Melee 1.5

But 64 is an old game. It lacks numbers (characters/stages), and has really clunky gameplay. The only reason anybody plays a 64 game anymore is for nostalgic value. Melee on the other hand is a smooth-playing, almost-balanced fighter that we've been working on for years and have developed many techniques that our fingers have become accustomed to. Not to mention, Brawl doesn't have everything Melee did, but Melee pretty much has everything SSB64 did.

Of course Brawl will be in everyone's focus (unless, like you said, it's a crap game) but that doesn't mean we should forget Melee whatsoever. And I definitely agree there is no need for Melee 1.5.

Edit - And by "64 is old" I didn't mean in the same way Melee will be. SSB is old as in the kind of video game technology they had back then doesn't even touch on today's.

It doesn't? We don't know that! Although some things have been released on the Smash website, there is still so much we do not know! We can't make judgements until we actually have the game. How much did we know about Melee before it was released? A lot less than we did after the fact!

This is one of those things that everyone loves, but has the same chance of a mad scientist managing to put wings onto a pig. Very low.

Careful, the chances of that are pretty high. Now- do the wings have to function, does the pig need to be alive?

I'm pretty sure Sakurai stated somewhere (interview) that not all 25 original Melee characters would return.

You're talking characters there. What about half of the stages they cut? Board the platforms? Link's Foward-smash? There's alot different in the two.
Good points. Well, yes there are differences between them, but the fact that there will be cast changes is a little bigger than that. Much of the excitement of getting a new game is getting new characters, and if some are left behind, the game just can't completely outperform Melee. I guess it is a matter of opinion, but I am holding mine that Melee should still be frequently played... after the new game hype is over.

I'd love to play Melee online. None of my friends are a challenge, and my parents refuse to drive me to fests and tournaments. Great idea.
Also I would LOVE to see Smash Bros. on a Nintendo HandHeld, preferably a next-gen one.

that would be a cool idea I think it would be nice to be able to unlock it

I mean what if you had never bought melee

or you wanted to play it for old times sake but your freinds are really bad at the game but you could just go online and play with people from around the world
