If anyone can get this game early, can they check if there is a voice option in the game?
Either for the US or EU release, as it will influence which version I purchase.

O also hope it is possible to connect to different regions as I currently own a US 3DS but am living in Europe,
which puts me in a terrible position regarding nintendo's region locking.

Does my US 3DS connect to EU 3DSes?
Can I streetpass?
Can I transfer my data from my US 3DS to my EU Wii U?

this is all very frustrating as it may imply I will have to keep importing all my gaming gear...

I wonder if anyone can give decent advice and help speculate beforehand, and maybe also help father information after release as this might be an ongoing topic until the games are finally released.

Would those people mind looking up if there is going to be a Download Play feature?
There is no download play. I think I read that somewhere.
No cross platform play either, just data transfer. Not sure what that entails

yes. not only would it not make sense if they couldn't (since they can connect over wifi), but i've done it before when battling pokemon.

Can I streetpass?
yes. my animal crossing game is on my american 3ds and i got loads of japanese streetpasses (more in a day than i did in two months in the USA)

Can I transfer my data from my US 3DS to my EU Wii U?
not 100% certain. seems unlikely since data is coming entirely from one source rather than in the case of multi-cartridge connection (in which case your system knows what to do because it has a disk telling it what the equivalent data is). download play between differently region systems seems to be region locked, too, which is a similar concept.

I heard that Fire Emblem doesn't connect via streetpass and can't do multiplayer if from different regions.
It's not as straightforward as it seems... and I already bought DLC.
miiverse streetpasses regardless. I wonder about this game specifically, as it would be annoying not to have local multiplayer but only wi-fi.

well, fireemblem is officially dumb then.

i think one of the big things about smash is that it's supposed to bring fans together. like with pokemon, being global is very important where it's less so for an RPG.

But even Mario Kart doesn't connect properly.
I am just worried.
I am not that crazy to buy two versions of every game and console just to play with friends.

then get the wii u version, mate
I will.
I just won't buy two Wii U's, two 3DSes and 4x smash to play with friends.
The 3DS version is going to be awesome. I just hope there's cross region multiplayer. And I don't mean online with all the latency issues.

I think you'll be able to play with both european and japanese players online, not just with american players. It happened with Brawl, so I doubt it.

I was talking about local, not online. I don't care much for online other than it being a last resort.

If you can do it online, I'm pretty sure you can locally. It wouldn't make sense otherwise.
But that's not the case with Mario Kart or Fire Emblem.
Please explain where you get your idea from.

I've had no problems playing local with people outside of my region at cons.

This is the first I've heard of this problem.

That's interesting. What regions did you guys have and what games were you playing?
Last I heard Mario Kart could not local cross region, only online.
Fire Emblem out of experience does not local cross region and it hurts me deeply as it's one of my favorite games.

I played Mario Kart with a guy who claimed to be American.

He may have jested me though.

That doesn't matter. You should have asked what his console region was.
I am not American. I have an American 3DS. I have a Japanese Wii. I am moving to Europe.
I have a passport that states I am officially European. I was born in the Caribbean.

It's crucial to have clarity. My DS was USA and now I have an EU DS. This awes awesome when region lock wasn't a thing.

I battled a friend locally in Pokemon who had a Japanese 3DS and got streetpass from him too (Kirby 3D, if it matters :p), so Smash will probably work locally too with foreign 3DS's.

The Wii-U and 3DS connectivity might not work though, but nothing can be said for certain until the game is released in different regions.

Pokemon is different.
I already knew this. Pokemon really really thrives on being worldly.
Smash never had a handheld version, so I don't know.... I hope it's not some oversight.
I think every game should allow cross region play. I just fear smash won't be that game.

It SHOULD be able to tranfer to any WiiU and 3DS in my opinion. If the Idea is that you play on your 3DS and customize your characters and bring them to a friend... how can I know which region my friend's game is from?
That would simply ruin the game if I had to buy a different version depending on which friend I'm visiting.

Region locking is the one thing Nintendo still does that makes me sad.

Fire Emblem may have issues caused by localization, as it was not developed initially with localization in mind. For that matter, they still haven't fixed the voice language saving bug in the US release. Could be a relatively unique blip. Smash, on the other hand, was developed with both/all regions in mind, and will probably work a bit better in that regard. Or at least one would hope. I imagine it will ultimately boil down to how much of the content is shared on multiplayer, and how much is local. For instance, if the US/EU versions can't handle Japanese kana, then unless they patch it at a later date, there would be bugs just from trying to render names and things when playing multiplayer across two versions. Nothing unfixable, just potentially incompatible if they didn't think of it before.

I wouldn't be that worried about it, though. Odds are it will work fine.

And at least you travel enough to have to worry about it. =|
