how do you feel about splitting the pokemon up to be there own characters but all as their starter forms and instead of the down b to switch you use it to evolve them. ex charmander to charmeleon to charizard the first one is fast and weak, the second is average in speed and strength, and the last slow but powerful.

So we get 6 new pokémon reps.

Please leave the Trainer how it is. And leave it in the game lol

good point that would be alot of characters, maybe they could do just one of them like that without it messing up the balance

I'd rather have PT removed completely and just iconic Pokemon selectable as independent characters.

I don't know. I would much rather have Meowth or Zoroark replace him. I have nothing against PKMN Trainer aside from taking up the time to develop almost 4 characters. It is a creative idea though.

I'd rather have the whole Pokemon Trainer "system" stay intact instead of this idea. Like others, I feel this would crowd the Pokemon Franchise, roster related, and I already felt that Brawl had a bit too many Pokemon reps. Only thing in terms of this situation I'd be ok with is Mewtwo to return and keep the Pokemon representatives as is besides that. Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Pkmn Trainer, Lucario and Mewtwo with or without some Awakening Forme shenanigans.

Btw, welcome to SmashBoards Mnkymn89.

To be honest, the only replacement for Pokemon Trainer I would welcome with open arms, would be Team Rocket (Jesse, James, Meowth, not generic Team Rocket grunt).

I understand if he's gotta go, then he's gotta go, but nothing will ever take his place for me... again, unless it's the loveable Team Rocket that's been on screen since day 2.

I would love for a better switch Pokemon system (Taunt buttonz!!!) and for Sakurai to include Jigglypuff in his Pokemon team. It would be the ultimate character counterpick!

As long as I can play as all three characters. I'm cool.

I'm pretty sure Gamefreak/Pokemon Company/Nintendo all consider them as much of videogame characters as Pikachu. They don't even have to use the 4 kids version, but the GameFreaks version I just posted.

They also enter ROB territory with the whole "not videogame characters" issue. (Not to mention Pikachu = popular because of TV, Jigglypuff = popular because of TV, Lucario = popular because of movie based on TV show, Mewtwo... etc, etc.)

I was just saying this to a friend last night! A Team Rocket version of PT would be awesome. Their three Pokémon could be Meowth/Wobbuffet, Arbok/Seviper, and Carnivine/Victreebell.

They only appeared in Yellow, and that was because it was basically an anime promotion and a gap for the next gen Pokémon games. Pikachu is the FACE of the whole Pokémon series. Sakurai added Jigglypuff because she considered her as a "joke" character aside that she was popular at the moment (which wasn't the sole reason). Mewtwo was basically considered the most powerful Pokémon at the time aside that it was a boss in the Stadium games. I can get Lucario because he talks, and that Misty had her anime outfit. But if GameFreak considered Jessie and James as videogame characters, they would be featured more since just one game, and Sakurai would have used Ash's design instead of Red's.

If they're having trouble with multiple character'd characters like Ice Climbers (i.e. ONLY TWO characters) then 3 different characters with three different characters in each character would be characteristic of a catastrophic cataclysm.

If they can't find a great solution to the whole 3DS limitations of multiple characters you control, or that follow you around, I'd say replace Pkmn Trainer with one of his Pokemon (example Charizard) or replace the whole idea with a popular recent Pokemon mascot/legendary. That's my take on it anyways.

I don't think Pikachu became the face of Pokemon until the show aired, I could be wrong though.
The reason Jigglypuff gained Sakurai's interest was probably because she was popular in the show.
Mewtwo had a movie right before Melee, but his stance as most powerful Pokemon might be another reason (though this is definitely not reflected in Melee).

And I think the reason why Jesse and James don't appear in the games too often is simple, Team Rocket disbanded a LONG time ago, and the game canon isn't necesarily the show canon. But I'll give you this... there isn't a Pokemon Yellow remake nor were they featured in Leaf Green Fire Red, meaning Nintendo wants them more associated with the show, and around Ash Ketchum than the games and their protagonists.

Smash Bros is not supposed to follow any sort of game canon, which makes them a bit more likely to appear in SSB than in Pokemon games. All I'm saying is they're in the realm of possibility.

I would have never expected them to give PT Ash's designs (though they sure tried to emulate his voice from the show) for the same reason I don't expect them to include Team Rocket's show designs, but Gamefreaks' art style instead (much cooler imo).

Anyway, not trying to stir things up or anything, but Pokemon type of representation is not set in stone, and in my eyes, is heavily based on the show as it is, except with GameFreaks designs (notice how Pikachu has absolutely no expressions from the anime)

They could simply appeared in the remakes. Or they could be featured in Heart Gold and Soul Silver as ex-members of the Team Rocket who want to reform it again. But they didn't.
Heh, actually yes, Sakurai said only characters who have their origins from videogame are allowed to enter. I don't think R.O.B. is an exception, since he did had his own game.

Could've sworn that was only for 3rd party, but whatever, lol. Pokemon Trainer was a miracle in Brawl. Team Rocket would be that new miracle to me so my expectations are really low for them either way.

I think Jigglypuff is a completely random choice of a character if one doesn't consider the show or the manga. Why her and not Clefairy? At least there was a whole mountain dedicated to the latter.

Either way, I hope PT doesn't leave or is changed (other than being buffed). I really like that character, and there were so many characters I was completely indifferent at their inclusion in Brawl, PT was like that ONLY character I really liked. It's really depressing seeing so much PT hate.

I agree and I like the idea of using one of the Pkmn Trainer's taunts to switch Pokemon, Frees up space for a new move.

thanks for the welcome taichiyaegashi and for the advice the real gamer lol. i like the idea of the pokemon trainer i just wanted to use the same concept with my favorite evolution of pokemon(charmander to charizard) but not leave the people who liked squirtle and ivysaur without. but at the end of the day if they keep the pokemon trainer or his pokemon in im good. i'd also be cool with mewtwo making a comeback i was never really sure why they took him out.

as much as I like pokemon trainer, I always think about how cool it would be to have 3 famous stand-alone pokemon instead. the only problem is that it would give pokemon the appearance of a beast eating up the roster XD.

I like the idea of switching Pokemon to adapt to the match-up better, you know, like in the games. If they could make each Taunt button switch to a particular Pokemon (Left = Squirtle | Right = Ivysaur | Up = Charizard) then it would be PERFECT.... (And taking out the Fatigue system too, that's just a cheap way of forcing you to switch Pokemon).

Games are about having fun, and making a Pokemon switch CYCLE, as well as implementing a fatigue system only detracts the fun, in my humble opinion.

edit: I want a Team Rocket outfit for SSB4, or bust. :p (Though I'm sure Pokemon Company has a strict policy against playing as Team Rocket, so even an outfit will be a long shot).
