Lately I've notice that I've been doing aerials instantly out of my jumps. I've gone into training mode and tried it, but I can only pull it off with a full hop and while using directional inputs instead of the C-Stick (A-Stick) like I normally use. Is there a name for this technique? Can it be performed with A-Sticking and can it be performed with a short hop?

Sounds to me like you're just buffering your attacks. IIRC, buffering is essentially inputting something towards the last 10 frames of an animation so that the next animation will instantly come out. Sounds like you're jumping and buffering the aerial while you jump instantly. This is possible with the C stick, and it is possible while short hopping. I use L for jump which really helps me buffer my attacks and get them to come out instantly.

Dude you don't know how much that helped me! I actually have L set to jump too, I just didn't think to use it that way! Thanks a ton!

Glad I could help! Also mess around in training mode, just messing around with movement and stuff. Buffering is a great tool when you completely understand it.
