Sup guys. I'm wondering if anyone thought of this as a possible item. Which item? Of course I'm talking about the 1-UP Mushroom.

Smash Brothers is more or less a gathering of the most iconic Nintendo characters and items around, right? What's more iconic than that classic sound when you get an extra life? I don't hear enough when I play SMB: Lost Levels, but I digress.

I'm sure you all know exactly what it would do: you get the mushroom and you get an extra life (or stock). Sounds kinda cheap, right? You know what, it probably would be. But with ridiculous Final Smashes, overpowered items, and Ike (the so-called "n00b killer"), it might not sound like such a bad idea.

Here's the twist, though. You wouldn't want it to be as simple as touching it and you go from 3-stock to 4, right? Since it'd be such a valuable item, you'd want some really epic struggles to come about when it appears. So if you were to pick up the mushroom, you'd "hold" it the same way you hold parts of the Dragoon or the Smash Ball. If you get smacked around enough, you can drop the 1-UP Mushroom and someone else could pick it up. Of course, you'd hear the 1-UP sound every time the mushroom's picked up.

So when exactly would the mushroom actually do what it's supposed to do? Simple: when you get KO'd. You'd die, as usual, but instead of going from 3-stock to 2, you wouldn't lose a life at all. Think of it as a second chance. Very helpful if you get caught by Galaxia Darkness... Oh yeah, the 1-UP 'shroom only takes effect WHEN YOU ARE KNOCKED OUT. If you kill yourself, you lose the life AND the 1-UP. Booya, preemptive cheaters.

This could be the turning-point in a Stock match, but what about in a Timed match? Really really useless... or would it? Let's say you grab that 1-UP Mushroom then someone KOs you. They'd get that +1 and you get the -1, right? NOPE. They'd get the +1 since they KO'd you, but you won't lose a point. Another turning point, indeed.

So... sounds like a plausible item, huh? Tell me what you think, and remember, real men use items.

I was thinking about the 1-up mushroom being an item. Remember in the Special Movie in Melee, where there were all these mixed sounds in the beginning before the picture came up? One of them was the Kirby 1-up sound, which was nowhere in the game. Were they planning on using it when they made the movie, but didn't use it? The world may never know. (And on that subject, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?)

Erm...if you got knocked out...wouldn't the powerful Smash Attack knock your 1UP Mushroom off?
Like, I can imagine Galaxia Darkness being powerful enough to make you lose your 1UP Mushroom. With this logic, I think it's a silly idea.

You can think about holding the 1-UP 'shroom the same way Kirby holds on to his copied ability. It usually takes more than a smash attack to knock out his power. I'm thinking about it in that sense.

As for getting hit with a Final Smash like Galaxia Darkness and automatically losing the 1-UP 'shroom... it's a possibility. Kinda defeats the purpose of why I'd want it in there, though. With all the overpowered items and moves turning up, I'd want a way to try to counter them.

EDIT:
Oh yeah, Andydark's idea is pretty decent. The battle will mean even more!
