Hey I'm doing an essay, what would you guys say the inputs or actions per minute are for Smash 4 vs. Melee.
Ik Melee has a lot more, but how much more? what are the numbers. Thanks.

I seriously doubt that anyone has recorded how many inputs per minute they do, but it's heavily dependant on the players style. Like which characters they use, how much they utilise advanced techs and option selects etc. If anyone has actually recorded how many inputs they do, that would be pretty interesting to see though.

It's not necessarily a given that Melee would have more. It'll depend heavily on character, match, and playstyle (like Ansou said). A Melee Jigglypuff probably doesn't input as much as a Smash 4 Sheik, for instance.

Either way, it's such a variable thing that to have statistical relevance you'd need to come up with an actual way to measure it, and then do so across numerous players at whichever skill levels you find relevant.

If you count directions as an input (which you probably should), it's probably fair to guess that both probably average two inputs per second when idle, and 4-6 in a fight. Also important to note that not all inputs result in actions, due to moves not being instantaneous and lasting multiple frames.

Theoretically, Melee should have more inputs per second due to the L canceling and wavedashing mechanics, and because of more lag in smash 4 (since L canceling removes 2/3 of the landing lag of a move iirc). I'd really enjoy seeing a high level melee player's apm vs a high level smash 4 player's apm for comparison though. I'm sure we could analyze the apm of both games if we had, like, a full controller view of a technical melee player and a technical smash 4 player.
