With everyone talking about DLC characters and such, Inkling looks like it's a pretty prominent contender in the DLC ballot. So I'd like to discuss possible movesets and gameplay mechanics if Inkling does get added via DLC.
Palettes:
Personally, I fell like it'd be cool to include a "Color Randomizer" palette, since Splatoon does randomize your Inkling's colors during gameplay, but I don't know if that'd be too memory-heavy for the 3DS and how that would work if two people randomly got the same color.
As it stands, I think 4 male and 4 female Inklings would work, similar to how Robin, Wii Fit Trainer, and Olimar/Alph currently operate. The colors should be diametrically opposed, so for instance the females get teal, red, green, and yellow, while the males get orange, blue, purple, and black (or something like that). This is because Splatoon's game engine always chooses 2 contrasting colors during online gameplay for easy-to-spot turf markage.
I also think a skin for Octolings would be cool, but that's asking for a lot.
I think that Nintendo, if they decide to do the Inkling, might just choose to incorporate the female Inkling instead of both, so this theoretical moveset has the female Inkling's anatomy and design in mind.
Moveset:
Neutral- A short-range "poke" of ink from the Inkling's Ink Shooter. Can be repeated and then finished with a stronger burst of ink, similar to Palutena and Mr. Game & Watch's Neutral.
Forward Tilt- A horizontal swing of the Ink Shooter.
Up Tilt- A quick arc of ink above the Inkling.
Down Tilt- A short jab of the Ink Shooter at the ground (would theoretically hit the opponents feet if they're tall like Captain Falcon).
Forward Smash- A stationary burst of ink that can hit multiple times (think of Pikachu's forward Smash)
Up Smash- Similar to Palutena's Up Smash (which creates a large ray of light into the air). The move creates an upwards stream of ink that has more range than most Up Smashes, but less than Palutena's. Also has a water/wind box on that pushes the opponent higher into the air if they were not hit by the ink.
Down Smash- Creates two fountains of ink on either side of the Inkling (like Mega Man's down Smash). Also has water/wind boxes.
Neutral Air- The Inkling uses the two long tentacles on their head to attack while spinning in a cartwheel motion. (The only one I can compare this to is Villager's Neutral Air). The male inkling has the same animation and hurtboxes, but instead of the two long tentacles (which they lack), the hurtboxes are marked by particle effects.
Forward Air- The Inkling does a downward "pistol whipping" motion with the Ink Shooter that has meteor smash capabilities.
Grab- The Inkling grabs the opponent with the two long tentacles on their head (the male uses his hands, since he lacks the two long tentacles.)
Pummel- Hits them with the Ink Shooter
Up Throw- Throws the opponent in the air and hits them with multiple ink shots.
Floor attack- Does a 'break dance' and shoots ink in a short, small circle around them.
Floor attack (trip)- Slams both of the long tentacles on the ground.
Edge attack- Slams both tentacles on the edge before pulling themselves up.
Neutral Special (Ink Shooter)- Charges the Ink Shooter. Pressing when fully charges releases a short burst of ink that has a long range. The ink causes damage and pushes enemies.
Side Special (Ink Bomb)- Deploys and Ink bomb that detonates after a certain amount of time.
Up Special (Recovery)- Uses Splatoon's "homing" function to send the Inkling diagonally upwards while in Squid form. In Splatoon, this function is used to quickly reach teammates to provide backup, and in Smash would function similarly to Rosalina's Launch Star move. This move does not damage opponents.
Down Special (Squid Kid)- The Inkling retreats into the ground in Squid form, much like they do in Splatoon. The Inkling can not be hit during this time, however they can only stay under for a limited amount and the ability must recharge afterwards. They also cannot attack and the move has a large amount of end lag.
Final Smash (Kraken)- The Inkling turns into their Kraken form from Splatoon. This is similar to Sonic's "Super Sonic" Final Smash, Wario's "Wario Man" Final Smash, Charizard/Lucario/Mewtwo's "Mega Evolution" Final Smash, etc, meaning it gives a boost to the Inkling as well as invulnerability.
Please suggest your own ideas!!! There's a lot of potential with this character so let's get creative!
