In what order should I play the Fire Emblem games?

Hi. I'm new to the fire emblem series. I just finished awakening and had a blast. I really would like to play the other games. Is there a specific order I should play them in? I know that FE8 is a prequel to FE7, but I have no idea about the others. If you guys could help me out, that'd be great!

I also posted this is /feg/ so they will help me out, too. Thanks in advance!

Most of the FE games are fairly self-contained. Even the ones that are sequels are usually understandable without playing their predecessors first. That being said, I personally would recommend checking out Sacred Stones if you're looking for something a bit more similar to Awakening. Although if you want to branch out beyond that Path of Radiance and Blazing Sword are both worth looking into.

Also, we do have a general Fire Emblem thread as well as a game suggestion thread. I'd suggest posting in either one of those threads if you're looking for recommendations.

nope, it's FE7 that's a prequel to FE6 (Fuuin no Tsurugi / Binding Blade), and FE8 (Sacred Stones) has no connection plot-wise to any other game in the series.

anyway, if you've just finished Awakening, then Sacred Stones is probably your best choice. If you can find FE7, 9 (Path of Radiance), or 10 (Radiant Dawn) anywhere, they're also good choices. 7 and 8 are currently available on the Wii U VC, so they're the most readily available. Avoid 6 and 11 (Shadow Dragon) for a long time.

Ah sorry about that, I'm not a frequent poster. I'll be sure to remember this though! Thank you!

Yeah that was a slip of the tongue, sorry about that.

Thanks for all the help, though!

Also, you should know that Awakening is very different from the rest of the series. There are many game-changing elements in Awakening that you won't find in previous titles (like the pairing up and marriage systems, infinite leveling, casual mode, a player-made character, DLC, and a few other things).

Ah, sorry. I have only ever played the ones released in America; never had an emulator until about half a month ago.

EDIT: And I know the GBA and DS are not region-locked, but I can't read Japanese, anyways. Just German and English.

I've only played the international games too. That's why I suggest checking out the FE thread. You'll find significantly more hardcore fans than I with a better knowledge of the series. Frankly, what I know about FE begins at Blazing Sword and ends at Awakening.

Although I have been meaning to play the Japanese games for quite some time now.

you can just memorize the position of commands, weapon icons, etc. to play japanese games. obviously you won't understand the other stuff, but the script about everything can be found online.
