Would it be impossible for SWF(and other brawl boards) to host a tournament just as big as EVO, with a ruleset approved by the SBR? It would take a lot of hard work, but it seems as if it would overall be worth it.

Edit: Sorry if its a bad idea, or its already being talked about. Just my curiosity.

How big is the EVO Brawl tournament? Because there are tournaments all over the US, run by TO's here on SWF, that are upwards of 100 registered. I'm sure some tournaments in the more active regions like Florida, California, and the NE coast have had them.

SWF frequently hosts tournaments bigger than EVO if you take into consideration the number of participants in Smash alone (as EVO hosts tournaments in several games and thus nets more entrants combined than, say, Melee FC).

We do it all the time, "even" in Europe.

EVO is so huge..because they have more than smash. Games 5x more popular imo. How many people were at evo east last year for smash. 60 something IIRC. Ive seen bigger tournaments being hosted by smaller causes and less known people. I dont think it would be difficult to match evo as long as you have good hosts, housing, food, a nice venue, air conditioning, and there are no errors with money anywhere along the line.

Ah, I see. I'm aware that there is frequently large tournaments hosted. I guess I was just a little disgruntled after reading the 30 page post on SRK.

Thats pretty low, I assumed that since the prize was 5000$; atleast thats what impression I had, it would have a very large number of entrants.

It's in Las Vegas, Nevada, I think.

Melee was one of the, if not the most popular Competitive fighting game in Europe and the U.S. I'm not entirely sure, but I think it is the most popular Competitive fighting game. There are, certainly, no "5x more popular" fighting games.

However, at EVO itself, Smash is not the most popular game.

Yep, as stated, we've held bigger and better tournaments for smashers already. Smash doesn't need Evo really, we just thought it'd be nice =) They decided to go the GameStop/Nintendo route but made the decision to charge for it as well.
