Several months ago, my friends and I at college acquired a copy of Melee and have been playing it quite frequently. Lacking any way to objectively rank the quality of our play against each other besides intuition and the general trend of 1v1 results, we are now trying to create a ranking system to track our progress relative to each other. Lacking any data outside of what the game tracks for us, we have come up with a Smash Power Index using the statistics the game tracks. The equation is made up of three parts, win percentage, calculated as (AVG players in game)(Wins)/(Games Played), damage (damage given)/(damage taken) and average KDR which is the average of all player 1 v player n matchups calculated as (Player 1 KDR against Player 2)(Player 2 Overall KDR). Currently, the KDR is weighted as half of the ranking, damage as 1/6, and wins as 1/3.
