Important and or interesting smash history left out of the smash documentary.

This was originally a tread I created on the Melee sub reddit, /r/SSBM
[Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/SSBM/comments/4c3srq/any_big_history_holes_in_the_smash_documentary/#].

I got a good amount of responses but then realized the smash boards where much more developed than the sub-reddit. Thus getting more exposure and more responses. So I propose my question again...

I was on of many that where introduced to the Smash Melee competitive scene through the amazing Smash Doc 'The Smash Brothers'. After that I have been a very passive Melee admirer (I guess you could call it...) I watch the big matches, kinda' know the players and from time to time check out the sub-reddit (and boards).

But as a self proclaimed "passive admirer", all the past history I know of Melee comes from the doc. So my questions is where there any big developments/matches/players/influential moments/crucial history/revolutionary **** that where left out of the documentary (or even skimmed over) that should be known?
