Smash Apprentice
So far, Sakurai hasn't mentioned anything about Brawl having an online tournament mode.
An online tournament mode would be great. Instead of having to travel all over, you could have a wonderful tournament experience right in the comfort of your own home. Not that traveling to tournaments isn't fun, but everyone gets busy or doesn't have time; therefore, wouldn't it be great to be able to play an online tourney when you don't have time to travel to one?
So, since Sakurai doesn't seem to be planning an online tournament mode, why don't we devise our own pseudo tournament mode?
All ideas of how to implement this are welcome. Here are just a few ideas I've had so far:
1. A Bit on Organization:The smash director in charge of the tourney would collect all of the friend codes of the entrants and create the bracket. The players would be sent the scheduled times that they would fight their opponents via PM's (or email, or something similar).
2. Declaring a Winner: This poses a small problem. Since the two combatants are the only ones who can see the screen, how do you declare a winner? Well, there are three possible way I've thought of.
1. It works off an honor system
2. Players are required to video their match and send it in or they're disqualified or
3. One of the smash director's assistants joins in the match as if it's a 3-player
brawl, but instead of fighting they simply stay out of the way and observe so that
a winner can be declared.
There are pros and cons for each one, but I won't take the time to list them here unless this thread becomes useful/poplular.
3. Prize Money: This is the difficult one. It seems like mainly online tournaments would be simply for the glory and not for the money...It could be done, but it definitely be harder than an in-person tournament. People would either have to send money by check, or they could use some sort of pay-pal method. Then after all that, you really have to trust the smash director to send you the prize money if you win. It's a lot easier to steal when your miles away from the person you're stealing from.
Ok, I could say more, but I don't want to get going too much unless people like this thread.
Sorry, my confidence level is low because this is the first thread I've ever done. At any rate, if people do like it, I'll add other ideas, and I'll break down the pros and cons of things already listed.
Feel free to post some ideas of your own, comment on the ones already presented, and help implement online tournaments into brawl.
