Back in the day fox was the best but was kind of like falcon where he might make top 8 but had no chance of clutching it out.

It was said fox was to hard or it was impossible to have constancy.

While he has a commanding neutral game, my question is on what impact could be made with other characters dropping less combos (tech in general) and fleshed them out a little bit more. It doesn't have to be just vs space animals, it could be marth never dropping a juggle vs peach or what have You.

Also something else worth noting is while there are tricks to make the wobble set up a true 0-death no escape, it can generally be agreed that if a number of those people no matter who You are, that should and normally is death. I'm sure partly why their rank is inflated is in part they have a rare power to be sure fire once or twice a game and just to think of the power that comes from the raw control even from weaker cast.

Curious on others thoughts

Did you mean consistency?

Fox is the best character in theory and in small tournaments, but as players keep going for too long, they're going to wear out. Fox is the most sensitive to mistakes and gets punished hardest for them. Players aren't going to at the top of their games often on their 3rd day in a row of playing that character for 12 hours/day. That could be the biggest reason why he doesn't/didn't win nationals as often as he's complained about being broken

The costs of other characters making mistakes are less severe and happen less often. Maining them gives better consistency

It is also interesting to consider the developmental implications of playing Fox. Playing a character that punishes you for flubbing or being inconsistent lends itself to becoming a better player in general.

For instance, Fox and Falco have largely similar numbers in playerbase but less so at top level representation. I suspect many Falcos hit a "wall" at mid level where the free pass lasers had been giving them in neutral stopped working on their opponent. Meanwhile, the Fox player continues their steady climb since they had to respect their opponents from the beginning.

So yeah, I'd say complacency is the bane of improvement. If more non-fastfaller mains approached their characters with the same diligence and refusal of error I suspect it'd be much harder for Fox to compete since he can't mess up in neutral 4-8 times. Every game. Every set.
