Imbalance of Themed Final Destinations?

I noticed in the Nintendo Direct, The different Final Destinations seemed to have different shapes. For instance, the "standard" one with a planet in back that changes background seems to be more "Traditional" in that it is slightly trapezoidal with the left and right edges curving in as you go further down. However, the "sky ruins" themed stage (the first that he talked about as another final destination stage besides the regular one) seems to be almost triangular, with sharper angles. The Super Mario Galaxy themed one seems to be circular, with shallower, curvy edges. The Pyrosphere one seems to have nearly vertical edges, and rectangular in overall shape (don't even ask me what the pink plasma tubes do). The Wily Castle version (so far as I can see) is similar to the Pyrosphere stage, but I can't see a bottom so it may go down to the KO line. This could have a significant effect if recoveries like that of Marth in Melee returns: that he conforms to the stage if he up-specials into it, and has an increased ability to recover based on that. Also I'm thinking of characters like ZSS and Little Mac who seem to have a rather linear recoveries that go straight up (for Little Mac) or at an angle up and forward (for ZSS) who could die because of being caught under the stage in the triangular one, but not the circular one.
Anyone have any thoughts?

I think a lot of people are taking the idea of Glory mode a bit too seriously... These aren't tournament matches with money on the line.

Sure it's not perfect, but it's definitely a step in the right direction as far as developers catering more towards the competitive crowd.

We all whined about how terrible Brawl's online stystem was, well now we have a (seemingly) great one with Sm4sh, but now everyone wants to complain about FD not being neutral enough. -.-

EDIT: Like seriously people if you want the freedom to choose stages while playing competitively then just play with people on your friends list. This really isn't as big of an issue as some are making it out to be, but that's just my opinion.

Not as much me complaining. For instance, I assume we'll be able to choose between them playing locally on our console. This could provide a little (though not much more) variety in FD locally. Now in Glory Mode, idk as much. I still think that online will be a terrible place to practice competitively, regardless of whether or not the stages are balanced.

I think tournament wise, where money is on the line, we should take these stages into consideration. They differ in minute areas, but hey, in PM we have Battlefield and Dreamland - essentially the same at first glance, but very different when you dive into them.

Ofcourse, we don't know how many there are. If it comes to terms where there are alot of similar (I know how silly that sounds) final destinations then we'll minimize the options to a select few. Maybe your baby (Yoshi's Island) then your midrange and then your big one (Dreamland). Not to mention that the stages themselves are different on the edges and underside.

EDIT mods, I notice there's numerous Final Destination Threads. Maybe compile them together and call the thread
" 'No Items, Final Destinations' Discussion" :troll:

My comment wasn't meant to target you specifically I've just noticed a lot of people complaining about FD in general since it's not as neutral as Battlefield.

Anyways I don't have an issue with some slight changes between the "FD" stages. I think it would be pretty boring if every one was exactly the same with just a different background.

Doesn't competitive Brawl in Japan only use Battlefield, Smashville and Final Destination?

I know over in North America we have like... 9 or so competitively viable stages. I think a shift to see what the Japanese metagame is like could be a really neat experience.

Online will always be a bad place to practice competitively, even if its perfect.

I still say that the solution is to set random select to pick only Final Destinations, then slowly (and I mean slowly) remove ones from its roster until only the very best remain. At that point, we either keep it random (for a little extra excitement) or, more likely, open them up to picking like other stages.

It also depends on where the blastzones of each version are. For instance, if one of the stages has a lower ceiling, then characters with vertical KO potential (Fox) will favor going there. So if this mode also applies to local, then tourneys will have much larger stage lists, and will probably allow more stage strikes than previous versions. But we'll really have to see until after the game comes out to decide whether multiple legal FD versions is a good idea.
