Imagine, if you can, the Glaciers being the top tier characters.

…and the speedsters being at the bottom in a reversal of the usual tier structure.

Would this game be any less popular competitively?

Well if the advanced techniquse were still in it then I'm sure of it. How exactly would they be top tier tho lol

If they remained the same "glaciers" as they are now but simply buffed until they are better than Fox and ilk then I'd say no, the game would not be played competitively for a variety of reasons. As they are now, they generally have 1 option in each situation and if they were op these options would have to be so overpowering to the other members of the cast that there is effectively no counterplay. In addition, the high octane gameplay, movement, and all the other stuff that makes Melee so cool would be much more limited and would have remained mostly unexplored

Super Armor.

AFAWK, there's no real Super Armor code in Melee at all. Just a Heavy Armor code for Yoshi's double jump. Melee hackers are still trying to research ways to implement a Super Armor equivalent if it's possible.
