So i've been smoking ever since finals last semester. I decided to kick the habit. My family is prone to cancer and I hate being controlled anyone let alone inanimate objects. I realized it was becoming to be a problem when I finished a pack in less than three days and my buzz dramatically decreased.. So I just went cold turkey today. It's gonna be tough. My room mate and most of my friends smoke My head hurts, and I got some slight cravings, but thats about it. Thank God I have gum and liquid tylenol.

I gotta admit Im going to miss it. I loved the instant stress relief, the buzz that came after every drag, and lets not forget the one that comes after romance (Im kinda thinking about making an exception just for that).

Anyone here in the Proom trying to quit or has already quit?

Update: Cravings are a bit stronger and im a bit jittery. Atleast the headaches are gone.

While I am still below the legal age, many of my family members have smoked. One grandfather dies from it, the other stopped cold turkey when he too stopped getting a "buzz." He said that although it was difficult to quit, he was glad he had done it when he finally shook the habit.

I think about quitting since like 2 months. Seeing this post at 3:20 AM is surely a sign.

The hard part for me is the fact I work in a depanneur. I can get cigars for free, all days. And when comes the time to hang out in bars with friends, we can smoke like 20 cigars each in one night...

I kept 2 cigars for tomorrow, hopefully I'll have the guts to completely stop soon

It's nice that you have the courage to try to attempt this, especially considering your workplace and the place where you spend your leisure time with friends. The best of luck to you on fulfilling your goal!

Thats a lot of nicotine your taking in Wak. Quitting is going to be tough man good luck. If you need to get a change of scenery do it because at the rate youre smoking, you could do some damage.

Yes, a change of scenery would help too. And be sure to use things such as gum and patches to wean you off nicotine.

Changing of job would do the difference in my case. Selling tobacco at every 18 seconds always makes me want to get a cigarette break >_>.
I could see how it would do that. You definitely should find a "safer," more tobacco-free job. And maybe not hang out at bars as often.

Almost every member of my family has had trouble with the 'ol cancer sticks. Myself included (still in high school mind you). I have been successful and I hope the same for you. It's a hard thing to do, kicking a habit. I no longer smoke but I believe I am in the early stages of addiction to pre-marital sexual activity. I guess your not the only one who needs to kick a bad habit. Good luck to you. Life without smoking is a life worth living.

Excellent advice to give. And the best of luck with your addiction too.

I've never smoked and don't plan to, but I wish you best of luck quitting. It truly is one of the worst habits imaginable, and kicking it is one of the best things you could do for yourself.

Hey man, you're making the right choice! I've seen how hard quitting can be sometimes, so I hope it goes well for you. Warning though, the level of addiction is going to equal how difficult is is to quit, and everyones level of addiction is completely different, no matter how much you may or may not smoke. Thats why you hear stories of people who smoked for years, and then quit cold turkey without falling back into the habit, but others who only started smoking a few months ago try over and over again to quit.

Me and my friends starting smoking at the same time (same day, actually). I was able to quit just be deciding to stop. One had to quit 3 times before it stuck. The other still can't stop. Hopefully, with all of your "quitting aids" you'll be able to quit.

Yeah quitting doesnt seem all that tough so far, but then again nobody has offered me a cig yet. I know when i go home today my buddy is gonna offer me one. I'll just tell him i quit first.

What I have to watch out for in the long run is the whole, "oh just one cant hurt." If anything gets me, it'll be that.

Edit: Im going to try and update my first post daily.

Yeah man, it only takes one to slip back in.

That's exactly why researches came to the conclusion that smoking was harder to quit than cocaine or heroin.
Where did you come across that information. Because here is some that directly conflicts with that. http://www.pnas.org/cgi/content/full/98/9/5300 . If you don't feel like reading it, it basically says that cocaine is the hardest drug to quit because over time, it blocks the transmission of dopamine. This makes it so that it is difficult for a crack addict to quit, because they have lost their ability to get natural highs and feel the need to return to crack to get a high from that.

I was just packing up my stuff to go back home for the weekend when i noticed there was a cigarette under the couch. It was a Turkish Silver. I actually contemplated smoking it for a moment. It had to be under there for a while. Probably stale as hell. If it was a Camel Frost i just may have given in.
