I'm new to melee.

Hello, I'm copke. I had just started melee a few weeks ago and I think I might be getting a little bit better. I've heard that now is a bad time to try to join in on the melee community because of how precise everything is, but I just brushed it aside and I'm trying to start anyways. I haven't really played with much people in my area except one of my friends who is also new to melee. I wish to get better and I seek some help in my journey to become a competitive player (not really, I'll never be that good) so I won't walk away in shame at a loss. I would greatly appreciate any help or guides so I can improve and get better. I have also been watching TONS of melee tournaments, the most recent being live at ShowdownSmash. Like I said, any help would be appreciated. And as my profile says, i main Fox, but I am also improving my Falco. Thank you in advance to the people I hope will be supporting and accepting. /

Howdy and Welcome to Smashboards! I've heard the opposite actually. That melee has been on a huge rise recently. Don't take my word for it though. Im just Smash 4 currently.

I would say to get wavedashing and dashdancing down real quick, and master them. Those are very important. Also learn combos and practice using shine. Try copying what top Fox players do (such as Lucky, Mango, etc). Also, head to the melee boards and ask around there. Now is a fine time to get into melee, seeing as the scene is growing larger each year, with new players rising, so don't give up!
