Hi, I just joined Smashboards, and I'm interested in getting into competitive Super Smash Bros for Wii U. I use Bowser and sometimes Jigglypuff. I have some questions about smash tournaments, so here they are:
1. What is the age restriction on most smash tournaments?
2. Are you allowed using gamepads at most smash tournaments?
3. How can I get better at smash 4? I can easily defeat level 9 cpu's, but I don't think I'm tournament level yet.
Thanks for helping!

Welcome to the boards!
I think you can't play using the GamePad on tourneys. I'm not sure on the other two, though. I may be wrong, of course.

Hey! To get to tournament levels of play, try to find a local community, and check out character specific forums to improve your game. Also, most tournaments DON'T have an age restriction (I should know, I'm 14). And of course, welcome to smashboards!

Thanks to everyone for their help, I really appreciate it. :b:
Now that I read your responses, I have 2 more questions:
1. At what level of play do tier lists matter?
2. What kind of tournament should I start at? Is Get On My Level 2015 a good place to start?

Well i believe tier lists are a guide for regular play. In the end it depends on the skills of the player. MewtwoKing, Hungrybox and Nairo have finished in first in tourneys at one time or another of the many there are held yearly And their mains if they do not choose another characters are mainly. Mewtwo, Jigglypuff and Zelda. These character are low in their tiers list but their players get wins and high positions so it's entirely up to the skill between players. I personally do not believe in tier lists. But they are a guidance at what to expect based on skill levels. My opinion really so it may not be like that. Not tourney level so idk what to suggest as your first tourney.

Any tournament is a good place to start. And trust me when I say that tier lists don't matter because I know a Doc who can consistently beat me, and he's at the.... bottom of the tier list? Shouldn't Megaman beat him automatically because he's 30 places higher? NO

Bowser definitely needs some more love, and Jiggs is great addition as well. Just hop into a tournament and you'll learn the rest, I was competing in my teens back in the day so don't worry about age.

Hello!

I don't believe there's any age or controller restrictions when it comes to tournaments so I may be wrong. And also don't worry too much about tier lists. While they are helpful as long as you're good with your character it won't matter what tier character the opponent is using!

There isn't really an age restriction on tournaments
Most don't allow the gamepad
Try ladders, or just playing with friends

Alright, I decided that I will continue to use Bowser and Jigglypuff because the Metagame is still early in development and the Smash Back Room has not yet released a Smash Wii U tier list. Though when the tier list comes out I'll see what happens/needs to be done. I also decided that I will probably be going to GOML 2015, though I need to start practicing with another controller because I just figured out they don't allow gamepads.:ohwell: Thanks for the help! Now, what controller do you think feels the closest to a gamepad? Thanks in advance!
