Maybe the female is a bit kinky.

I think you should wait and have patience.

Just to make sure you know this before it's too late. Never transfer your fishies into a completely new set of water or else it will die. Fact? Yes. Reason? I think it was because of salt solution in it's body. Low concentration to high concentration. Anyways. If you need it to be into another tank, save some of it's original water and mix it in with the new water to ensure life.

If the tank's big enough it might be worth getting another female or two, that way it incerases the chance you'll get some to breed. Also, have you got an idea on how to contain the babies and keep them safe from being eaten by the bigger fish?

When you get new fish, put them in the tank in their bag first. Leave the top open or have some way of getting water from the tank into the bag so they can gradually adjust to it. Then maybe the next day or so you can move the fish completely into the tank. Also, put a drop or two of solution into the tank. Don't clean the tank the day before adding new fish because your old fish already have to adjust to it, the newer fish will have even more problems.

Also, if you want to make sure the baby fish don't get eaten, I'd probably round them up if you notice they are being eaten.

Ok this I should be good at because I own a fifty five gallon tank full of fish. Um basically for the tank(I'll get to the whole mating part soon) make sure you have plants and the tube that go under gravel in the back that have bubbles scatter up. a good filter and check the water about once a wekk for Nitrates nitrites, ammonia, ph level extext. make sure that if you want a community tank that the fish are non aggressive. if your going for a tropical fish tank then guppies platties, mystic sharks, cardinals, and other school fish will get along fine. If you have enough plants and hiding places the fish will usually mate, when the female fish is pregnant you'll need to get a special container that'll hang off the edge of the aquarium and put her into it otherwise when she does have her frie the male will eat them. Hope that helps ^^

OH also when you go to transfer fish if their in a bag put the bag in the water for up to fifteen minutes then open the bag and exchange water, bringing some water from the aquarium into the bag and some water from the bag into the aquarium, it also help if you buy a chemical called stress coat. squirt some of that into the bag and then release the fish into the new aquarium. oh and also to figure how many fish to have in your aquarium theres a trick to that. you have to figure the length of the aquarium and each fish from head to tail should go along the length so in other words. if the length is 18 inches then you should have 18 inches length in fish....

symbols

>O= fish

-------= length of aquarium

>O>O>O>O>O>O>O>O>O>O>O>O>O>O>O>O>O
----------------------------------------------------------------

hope thats easy to understand...

BTW ive had this tank since march, i remeber last night, the male wanted to mate BADLY,so he goes insane with his dance,he chase the female, and trys to "trap" her in the dance,he even did it in front of the algae eater(wicth is about a inch long) i though it was funny

these are the behavior ive seen so far..

male S.T(red stripe): he usualy stick with the female, just follow her in an innocent way,

female S.T(brown stripe, with spots): usually does nothing but eat leftover in the rocks,or sit in one spot, she doesnt mind the algae eater

algae eater(stripes, one inch wide) : he chases the male sometimes, but not hurting him in anyway, suck on the walls, sucks on the coral structure, wanders around near the S.T's, he sinks with he swim

so...nothings really happening,

Tl:dr

Basically, wait till a full moon turn off all the lights in the house and light some candles, maybe some incense. Take out some flowers and whip cream and spread liberally, After that you going to want to turn on some Kenny G. Don't make too much noise other than that and wait for the eyes to meet.

But seriously make sure you are turning off the tank light when nightfall comes, it messes with their schedules.

I'd have to agree with some other people, you need variety. Maybe the female thinks the male is a **** and doesn't like him. so get some more females

Maybe you should try leaving the room and giving em some privacy >_>

Seriously though, just wait awhile and they'll probably hit it off.
