What if there was a game mode
where every player has two of whatever character they picked
Like, you'd pick Pikachu and you'd have another Pikachu with another alt following you like Nana
and then Ice Climbers would have four per player.
and if you pick all-star versus, you can pick your Nana to be someone else
and every character gets 8 alts so this actually works

Yeah except each character's sidekick would need to be less powerful or it would get weird. Roy could have Melee Roy following him.

Dantarion showed off an early version of a code that did exactly this, back when 3.0 was released. The Twitch archive is gone, but I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this in the future.

Ice Climbers are now a team of 4. Everyone picks them and we have 16 characters on screen.

This is actually a really cool idea. I'd love to see it if they can pull it off. It's nice to have some wacky game modes. However, I'd expect some issues would arise if everyone picked Ice Climbers or even Olimar. Maybe the Ice Climbers would just have to stay the same.

Ice climbers could stay as 2 characters but Nana could get BUFFED.

We already know Dantarion was working on making other characters function like ICs, and the video showed it fully working. There's no way they'd put all that work into making this hack only for one throwaway video that will never get a public release. Just like last year's joke became Turbo Mode, this will be in the game eventually.

Have controller in port 2. You can go to training mode and then enter then exit. Then go to normal mode and you can control 2 ports. It's not exactly what you're saying but it's close.

Not sure if this was patched in 3.5

It'll be part of Special Smash. It's meant to be ridiculous and balance is not a concern. Double characters will fit in just fine alongside Turbo Mode and Type 3 Stamina.

The internet, obviously.
About the inevitable Ice Climber lag... I don't think it would be a concern. I mean, 3.0 initially had alts that would lag the game in 4-player mode since it came out before BrawlBox had its tristripper.

It'd be a really fun mode if it could be done well. Wonder how the "Nana" on each player would look. Would it load up another costume for that character, or simply use a second version of the one that was picked?

Either way, just imagine all the Double Falcon Punches and Offense-Up Up-Smashes.
