Pretty much, they say it's generic and their isn't enough strategy to defeating enemies. Sorry guys, I'm going to have to agree with them. The Subspace Emissary is actually looking to be pretty dull. I saw the cutscenes and all, and it's pretty much just a cliche gang up of characters to fight one blue bad guy.

The thing that cheeses me off the most is that the SSE probably took development time away from actually making multiplayer superior with more characters. See, Melee was running short on time, but it had a Single Player Story in the works. However, Miyamoto told Sakurai to abandon that and shift all focus to multiplayer. That turned out for the best, didn't it?

Imagine getting a de-cloned Toon Link, Ganondorf, Lucas and Falco. As well as turning some other ATs into playable characters (Ray MKII, Isaac, Advance Wars Rep, Stafy, Saki, Samurai Goroh, Little Mac, Lyn, Dr.Wright e.c.t.) I'm sure the SSE didn't take up that much development time, but if it did, I am extremely disappointed, because it doesn't seem that great.

Please don't go off the bat and flame me for this. It is pretty sad though. Because, after we're done with the SSE, it will be noting but a thing of the past. Multiplayer could keep us busy for years to come! I would have appreciated a more robust multiplayer than the SSE.

I think the subspace emmisary is OK.

I don't think we were going to get a lot of characters without SSE. I don't think so.

I think we would, SSE took the most time for him to develop, and took up the most space with the rendered cut scenes. I am too disappointed, because I see the big picture of playing SSE for a week and beating it, and never enjoying it again, while still being upset I can't play against my friends with my favorite Nintendo characters.

I dont care what IGN says. I'll enjoy SSE. I dont care about strategic boss fights, the cutscenes are epic "points to Marth+Metaknight skirmish cutscene, and the cutscene with Marth, Ike and Metaknight attacking the AM."

Exactly. It took me 3 weeks to fininsh Mario Galaxy, and that was a full fledged game. The SSE might take me 1 week tops! And, to boot, I'll never get to play as Isaac, RAY MKII, Andy, or a proper Toon Link because they spent so much effort in making SSE cutscenes, story lines, and Bosses.

Yeah, the cut scenes may be epic now, but in a few months they'll be gone, done, a thing of the past. We'll be left with a multiplayer that is less robust that it could have potentially been.

The game is fine. It could have been a little better, but there's no way to change it now.

Where the hell did this taboo thing come from?

What's wrong with good old fashioned sidescrolling beat 'em ups? Think Streets of Rage, or the TMNT arcade game! I'm so glad that they adapted that to Smash! Don't forget that you can mix and match characters as you go through, and you can play co-op.

I hope that I really enjoy SSE, or I'm just going to be upset that so much time was wasted on SSE, instead of spending that time on adding extra characters and such.

I'm gonna be honest. I'll play SSE over and over. I just like those puzzle adventure games... I don't know why. I think SSE was based off of Kirby & the Amazing Mirror, a game which I particularly liked. We're all entitled to our own opinions anyway. Some people may hate puzzle adventure games with cutscenes. Others may like SSE.

Exactly! It shouldn't be! Street Fighter (the game is being used as an example, I'm not saying it's better than Smash) has minimal story, but it has great fighting! The series is accepted and fine that way! If Smash maybe had a stroy that was all text maybe, or a few cutscenes it wouldn't be bad. But it shold have been more like a 20 minute game than a 7 hour game.

It's not a puzzle game at all! All you do is mash, mash, mash! Multiplayer actually has you creating strategies to defeat a foe. The SSE is actually imo one of the poorer genres of gaming.

I have to say this after watching all the Subspace cutscenes: It's really disappointing.
There are way too many plotholes
(such as Taboo, the Ancient Minister's motivations, Master Hand being a good guy, GDorf working for the Master Hand, Snake on the Halbeard, G+W's situation, etc.)
.

According to the Dojo:

The Adventure mode also emphasizes character development. You’ll see many famous characters persevering under the weight of their personal histories, shouldering their unique burdens... It’s really something you won’t see anywhere else.
I'm not seeing any of this. Where are the personal backstories in this game?
I see no Samus flashbacks of her traumatic experience at the age of three, no Lucas reliving having to fight Claus again, etc.
Honestly, I think most of us could've made a better storyline than this. Heck, the original bus storyline would've been more interesting since it has buses.

The character development is very minor and is only seen in Lucas and Dedede and that's not a whole lot in each of them.

Am I still going to play this mode, yes, partly for the cutscenes so I can finally make AMVs again.

There was no stroy in the SSE. It's levels were also bland. Like I said, very bad decision. I could have headed this project better lol. The bus stroy actually seemed very interesting. It wouldn't try to be someting it shouldn't be. I'd imaing it would be someting about all these famous fighters gethering at a tournament. Maybe a few villains shake things up, maybe, there is a boss fight or two e.c.t.

I only play Smash for multiplayer. If they wanted this cross over paltformer, make it it's own game, with ACTUAL platforiming gameplay. Sure the stats were altered for the SSE, but it's still Smash...not a platformer.

Also, wtf is up with the enemies. I want to see Koopas, ReDeads, Waddle Dees, Sankes (Kid Icaurs), Blowhogs (Pikmin), and other enemies.

I wanted some decent characters this time around and no clones. If there were clones, I'd expect the number of characters in 45's-50's. I NEVER wanted this, and I'm sure people buying this game could care less about the SSE. If you added more characters, you could convince the casuals it is a big jump not just gameplay mechanics.

Also, wtf is up with the gameplay mechanics? Why would they make the game slower than Melee!? Melee felt so natural opposed to the first one. I'm okay without wavedashing and L-Cancelling (lag has naturally been reduced), but why touch the speed?

God, I SINCERELY hope the next Smash is NOT headed by Sakurai or Game Arts (your dumd if you think there will not be another Smash). I want HAL Laboratories having full control over Smash, and someone like Iwata, Miyamoto, Aonuma heading the next Smash!
