...wouldnt it be super cool to be really young again and not even know about the Mewtwo DLC, and then see him in like, an online match or something? haha I can only imagine the magic and wonder that would be instilled in my heart.

I'd think you'd see him at the character select screen after the update regardless of if you bought the DLC or not though.
And you wouldn't be able to play online without updating to the latest version.
Kinda impossible to be surprised i'm afraid.

But otherwise, yes.

On the other hand, i already had that experience with Melee anyway. My tiny little mind exploded when Mewtwo's silhouette appeared on the screen. I mean, in 2002, he was still basically the ultimate boss Pokemon. Lugia & Ho-Oh were cool and all, but they where not as badass as Mewtwo.

Actually it would make sense if we didn't have all the unlockables spoiled everywhere so I could be excited over them. Perhaps the internet as well so I can get excited over new characters

The internet has ruined a lot of childhood curiosities we used to experience, can't be the only one who thinks that. I still remember to this day having a sleepover at my house with all of my friends, we played Melee free for all matches for hours until like 4 am, it was a magical experience, thinking we had all of the characters and stages and everything unlocked. So imagine the shock to us ten year old some kids when we were met with a silhouette of a character we have never seen before until then. What the frick, Mr. Game & Watch!? We all wanted to shout out as all of my friends cheered me on to defeat and unlock him. We made jokes on how he was spamming bacon and never got over how, long after we had thought all of the games content was unlocked, we were left with a very pleasant surprise none of us had expected.

I always wonder what my reaction would have been of the Smash 4 cast as I unlocked them if I hadn't already spoiled them months prior to 3DS release. :) I remember my little brother was freaking out when he had first unlocked Duck Hunt, completely surprised by him being a fighter in the game. Amazing.

I really miss that feeling. I wish I could keep myself from watching trailers and looking at leaks. Seeing Mewtwo in Melee was amazing, just because how big of a deal he was back then, and because I had no idea he was in the game.

Those were some great memories.
