The internet has ruined a lot of childhood curiosities we used to experience, can't be the only one who thinks that. I still remember to this day having a sleepover at my house with all of my friends, we played Melee free for all matches for hours until like 4 am, it was a magical experience, thinking we had all of the characters and stages and everything unlocked. So imagine the shock to us ten year old some kids when we were met with a silhouette of a character we have never seen before until then. What the frick, Mr. Game & Watch!? We all wanted to shout out as all of my friends cheered me on to defeat and unlock him. We made jokes on how he was spamming bacon and never got over how, long after we had thought all of the games content was unlocked, we were left with a very pleasant surprise none of us had expected.
I always wonder what my reaction would have been of the Smash 4 cast as I unlocked them if I hadn't already spoiled them months prior to 3DS release.

I remember my little brother was freaking out when he had first unlocked Duck Hunt, completely surprised by him being a fighter in the game. Amazing.
