...from an unofficial/unreliable source, would you have believed it?

In what particular areas would you have been the most skeptical?

Unless you're using the wrong wording, it actually was leaked months ago.

I didn't believe it much because it said Dark Pit was in and I thought 3 KI characters was too much. But at the time no one expected Melee esque clones to be in the game either, and if he needed a few clones to buff up the roster then that totally made sense to pick Dark Pit to fill that role.

The leaks were pretty conclusive regardless of when they were released, primarily because of the videos that leaked which would have been near impossible to fake, as well as Nintendo issuing a copyright claim on the videos within a number of hours basically confirming that they were real. I'd say people's reactions would have been the same, mainly the response to Duck Hunt.

Speaking of leaks, I've been wondering about the Gematsu leak now that the ESRB leaks have been confirmed. How is that they managed to predict some characters without turning out to be true? I mean, they predicted MegaMan and Wii Fit Trainer before the game was even announced. I highly doubt they would have randomly guessed Wii Fit Trainer completely by chance and actually been correct.

Considering how many smash fans are out there, one of them must have gotten pretty close right? With some level headed thinking and research, it's not impossible to predict what characters Sakurai will and will not put in based on previous games and what he's said in interviews. Some characters have been waiting to be in smash for a while like megaman and little mac, and WFT is a bold move but a move Sakurai would make nonetheless, as many of us now know. Megaman and Little Mac were basically free guesses, and so was Shulk and Palutena, and others I may be forgetting. That made it seem like he had leaked info, but really many people could have gotten as close or closer than him.

Or he may have gotten some inside news -- very very early news at that. We'll see. If Chorus Kids gets put in then my belief may lean more on this.

They could have had genuine inside information, but just threw in some false information either to throw their bosses off their scent to stop them being caught or just to purposefully mislead everyone. So that once their predictions started to come true their false claims seemed to be real too.
